Hello All! Around a month ago, I spotted a chicken lying in the road, with an egg next to her! I thought: this is NOT NORMAL (even for the central African country I live in, where all manner of animals roam free, scavenging for food). I stopped my car, had a look and made the snap decision to scoop her and her egg up and take her home (yes, I essentially 'stole' her and also probably saved her from being run over by a vehicle)! Her feet were completely entangled in the hair extension braiding filament which is ubiquitous street trash here such that three toe tips are completely gone (squeezed off!) And, both of her eyes were 'glued' shut, apparently from some kind of infection. Fast-forward to today, she is doing soooo much better and both eyes are mostly open. She doesn't have great balance and doesn't scratch much or perch but she seems to have adapted to the lack of toe tips. Plus, she is brooding on 14 eggs (though I don't know quite what to do about that!). Anyway, that's us-- living in the country of Tchad, where life/existence is challenging for creatures and humans alike & taking care of this hen (well, two now as someone gifted me another one around 10 days ago to keep the first one 'company')
