accidently killed my rir roo

well its a good thing you killed him before he really spurred you I have heard horror stories of bad infections and puncture wounds from big spurs.

It must be disturbing but you opened your home to him and he attacked you, that is what happens. Besides that is not a personality trait you would want carried down into future generations.

I remember one time when I was in high school, (which was a long time ago) we had a roo that froze his toes off and he walked on his nubs every time I would go into the pin to check on them he would attack me. I told my mom about this she didn’t believe it we walked into the pin and sure enough he attack us, I reared back to kick him like a football and mom caught my foot and said no you can do that that’s mean, what happens next I will never for get to this day, mom would never kill the chickens she didn’t like doing it but she picked that roo up put a rake over its neck and pulled his head off, now that was mean.

Well, I can relate - I had a bout of depression years ago but didn't recognize it for what it was. My pet parrot ticked me off one too many times and he hit the floor. I still feel bad about it. (And yes, I've gotten treatment for the depressive tendancies.)

When I was raising some straight run chickens I had several young roosters in the coop. One really started to get 'cocky'.

One day, he attacked and I had enough...I grabbed him, spun and him by his head to break his neck and killed him. The other birds where in the coop at the time. Chickens may not be so smart, but I tell you, those other roos never gave me any problems after that.

Sorry about your rooster, but he had it coming and he should make good stew.

Finally, I just snapped...and durn near snapped Clarissa's neck in the process. I distinctly heard a popping noise in her neck when I lifted her 5 feet off the ground.

Wanna know something? That Clarissa has been one of the sweetest birds I have in the entire flock ever since that day!

Sometimes, ya just gotta show 'em who's the boss!

Maybe Clarissa just needed an "adjustment" --- you could hang out a shingle as a chicken chiropractor !!

I currently have a nasty rooster named "Chief" ... he's gotten me so many times, it's not even funny. Persistant bugger.

Well, Sunday I was doing some work in the barn and he was standing in front of me, lookin' mean and picking up pieces of straw to throw around. I bopped him with a small bucket just to move him back a bit so I could walk through the Dutch door. He wouldn't move and raised up his hackles a bit ---- well, I bopped him a GOOD one in the head. He dropped down with one wing out and his head kinda crooked-looking. MAN did I feel awful ! Bugger got up kinda wobbly and shook it off. TUFF old thing.

Just a few months ago, one of my roosters attacked my dad, who was doing chores for me while I was away. Drew blood on his leg. Dad picked up a 2X2 and did a "Pujols" (star hitter for the St. Louis Cardinals) --- darned rooster never even THOUGHT of bothering dad again.
