Accidently suffocated my duckling

I'm completely new to this site so I'm probably writing this in compeltely the wrong place and I'm on my phone which makes it twice as hard so I apologise, hah. First of all, I have had this account for less than a day and already I have spoken to some of the loveliest people ever. Most of the people I know think it's odd to have ducks so reading things from people who get it is wonderful. I don't think you can truly understand what wonderful creatures watefowl and poulrty are until you've owned some! Honestly thank you all so much for being so kind, this morning I was feeling so low and reading all these lovley replies put a huge smile on my face! :D second, an update! So I buried Maisy next to her siblings, and I'm sure my other animals could sense there was something wrong because my Pekin drake who usually attacks me when I walk up the garden (territorial little git) came and stood silently next to me along with his sister, the two dogs and my kitten as I made her tiny grave. Then my mum returned home with a box, she'd told me she was getting some crested runners but she'd gone all out and bought two goslings: a chinese swan goose and an embden as well as the ducks! They are honestly the cutest balls of fluff I've ever seen! I still miss Maisy more than I can even say but it's lovely having a little family in my room again :) anyway, sorry that was so long and thank you - again!xxxx

hehe thank you! I'm going to put some pictures of them on tomorrow - they are beyond adorable! Aw wow, what's his name? I'm hoping mine's a boy, he's/she's 10 days old so too old to vent sex I think, I've named him Sydney and he's looking very regal already!:)

I am SO happy to read your post.
I am sure you will always remember Maisy, and that will make you an even better duck owner.
It is all a learning process, and it is nice to have people to talk to here, isn't it? Most people are so helpful & kind.
People do think keeping ducks is a little wacky, but I have found that most will change their tune after a day at my house.

I can't wait to see pictures. I'd really love some Cotton Patch Geese in my flock, but have read geese can be a bit aggressive with children, so I am being a good girl & holding off on them until the 7 year old is a little bigger.
Congrats on your new babies! Enjoy.

Thank you! Yeah I know now to never cuddle a duckling if I'm likely to fall asleep! It definately is, this was my second hatch but even now I look back on last years and realise how many silly mistakes I made, although I feel more experienced than I actually am from the hours I spend reading every bit of info I can find haha. Aah I know right, I used to think it was crazy when my friends had hens but now I practically have a flock in my bedroom! Oh gosh, I just googled Cotton Patch Geese and they are beautiful! Great, another bird I want. When I had my two Pekins I was like 'right, that's enough, no more!' but hatching them is sooo addictive/rewarding :p
