thats sad- but you know- abstracts can be quite challenging, not that non artists would understand as much planning and technique is needed for that too....i usually do bird aceos, and also pet portraits, but smaller art sells better right now.... i am fighting carpal tunnel myself and it really is frustrating-
I collect and paint ACEO's. I think they're just tons of fun. There used to be a site/forum on the net where people could trade ATC's, but for the life of me I can't find it anymore.
It was really neat- group trades, theme trades, just fun...at least to me anyways.
My ACEO's are typically animal related. I paint in acrylics and prismacolor pencils. I used to sell quite a lot on ebay. Original Small Works of Art (OSWOA) are pretty neat too. Smaller works do seem to sell better.
ebay has been a good option for me, but it has taken a couple years to get established and to have regular customers- and with the economy it has slowed some- but still, most of mine sell- i am starting to do chickens now too, fascinated with the variety..so garden birds and parrots, which are big sellers..
The detail is lovely. I didn't know what an ACEO was until I searched it on the web. I am impressed that something can be so tiny and yet all the subtleties still show. Really very nice art form I was not aware of.
I forgot to ask. How are these displayed? It would be a shame for them to end up in a baseball card box............ Are they sealed for preservation? Framed-I guess probably not? Very curious if anyone has time to answer.
i have learned alot doing them- refined technique and tried different styles, so it has been a great learning process. As far as display, i know some of my customers keep them in those display panels, like you get for family photos. I sell them as sets, so folks are getting something special, once i started doing that i couldn't keep them on ebay- the way i use ebay is for promotion- getting seen, from it i have gotten commissions and inquiries, i never sell them for what they really should be sold for- it takes a couple hours sometimes to do each card, folks want pretty things - but usually can't afford large art- and i have made some long term friends from my customers- wow too early in the morning to start rambling!
I collect them, got them on Ebay. I have favorite artists, and will buy anything that strikes me. Mostly I buy birds, but have gotten some lovely landscapes.
Am working on doing some of my own, haven't painted in years. But the small format is not too intimidating. Actually seems easier, lol.
