We just found out that my husband is being transferred, JUNE 1st!!! We will be moving to the Huntsville, Alabama area. We have been contacting realators about rental housing. I have not been able to find anything that will allow me to take the birds.

I have been having a hard time finding something that will take our 5 dogs. So, now I have 3 weeks to sell what we can, pack up a truck and try to find homes for the ducks, ducklings and chickens.

So, I have 5 chickens, a muscovy pair, and 11- month old ducklings to sell.

We are excited to move just didn't expect to have such a short time to plan it.

Wow, yes that is awfully short notice! No hopes in finding a place that will allow you to keep some of your birds? what an unpleasant task to have to re-home them, i'm sorry.

Oh gosh I hope you can find something so you can take everyone. if not i wish you the best in finding homes for everyone.

Sorry to hear about this hopefully you can find a place to keep everyone. If you were closer and were not able to house your flock I would for sure be interested in purchasing the ducks and chickens for our small farm

Can your Husband go alone and you stay behind to either look for a place that will accept your animals or to have longer to find homes for your animals?

I hope you are able to find something to allow all them, if not, I hope they go to good happy homes. I wish I could help.

Thanks everyone. Unfortunately, we can't afford 2 rents so I have to go. I am going to keep looking for a place where I can have them. It is just so hard these days with all of the scams that are out there. There are so many rentals on craigslist but I am very leary about renting from someone out of state on craigslist. At least with a realtor, it feels more secure.

Did you see this one? Not sure how far Alexander is..

I periodically check on there and look under the rental tab but do a search within the rentals for "acreage", "mini farm", "Pets ok" ect to weed out the apartments.

Are you able to send husband ahead early to scope the area out? We moved 7 times in as many years when my husband was in the Army. I found the house we're in now on CL from out of state, made two trips up (5 hours one way) to verify legitimacy and all that. Scored a diamond I wouldn't have found anywhere else... $500 a month, 2 car garage, single family house on a large lot, and when I asked about chickens she said "sure! why not?". Course I checked the legalities for the area too, was ok all the way around.

You need to find a private individual. Anything in the hands of a management company will usually tell you No on the animals. We have 2 German Shepherds, typical to find them on "the list" just because of breed, for insurance purposes that the owner carries. Her insurance was cool with it and she was too since she had a Shepherd too. Dumb luck, is what this house is. I had searched for awhile!

It's really hard to rent with animals. Just as my husband was existing the military, we were up for orders to move if he had stayed, and Shepherds were going on the banned list that next year. Would have had to hunt down off post housing if he had stayed in. Giving the dogs up was not an option, we've crashed in some goofy places to be sure we could keep the dogs!

I feel your pain, stressful time ahead! At least you have time, I've worked with as little as 2 weeks. Managed an international move in 5 weeks. By the skin of my teeth too!

Post a "wanted" add on craigslist for moving boxes. Expensive to buy them new. Sort stuff now, have moving sale. More people show up if you call it a moving sale instead of a yard sale. Make a good will donation trip... don't take stuff you haven't touched in the last 3 years. LOL

As a landlord I would not rent to someone who hasn't personally seen the house. Most people we rent to either drive or fly in for the weekend or send a family member to view the house. Then I will agree to rent to them in advance of the move.
They had a scam going on OKC Craigslist someone was pretending to own houses that were actually been foreclosed in nice neighborhoods & offering them up for rent. Scammed lots of people out of lots of money. They would show up with their moving trucks to the new address & find out it wasn't their new place.
Best wishes finding a new place! I would be just as nervous going with an agency. Yes the house is real but the truth is only disclosed by neighbors. Not agents.

If you need a place to keep them for a few days till you can come back and get them or something I can keep them here with mine. Or if you do find homes and they can not take them for a couple of days after you move then I can also watch them till then as well. I just cant keep them long term but would like to help if I can. I hope you can take them with you though.
