ok silly ducks finally have external pips... either I can't count or the incubator is running a little low???

kept hearing cheeping this morning... checked the babies in the brooders, nope they looked ok, checked the nr360, nope no duckies running around yet. what the ???
got to listening and it was coming from the cabinet incubator!!
we had some Necked neck eggs that we thought we had mislabeled and they were hatching in the turners in the cabinet incubator
2 had escaped and were running around the bottom the others were still in the turners either almost out or just sitting there. So we quickly moved that set of eggs into the nr360 with the duck eggs and now we wait for them to finish hatching.... wow

WOW! Nice save! That happened to me once with an egg that had already started developing in the Georgia summer heat, I didn't know quite how long it has been developing but there is was, externally pipped and peeping while it rolled around in the autoturner on day 16! lol!

well to be fair the eggs had 3-3 written on them in DD's handwriting but when we candled they didn't look far enough along so we left them thinking it was supposed to be 3-13??? so they are hatching on 3-7??? oh my
2 black necked necks and 2 blond with chipmunk stripes??? oh and a full feathered black

I think there were another 8 maybe 10? eggs that we fit into the nr360.
so she is hoping for quite a few more. she already has more Now than we hatched all year least year.

That's good, then! It will give her more to choose from for future breeding's, once they grow out so she can tell if they are going to be what she need's for her project.

exactly! it is super exciting to see that everything from that breeding pen is coming out black, the black necked necks she has now were out of Blue foot our white Nn rooster over the black austrolorps we have. It is exciting to see her project move forward! she did end up with a couple of cuckoo pattern roosters this year so those will not be used(they are out of a cuckoo marans mix hen so all the cuckoo chicks will be male if I understand correctly?) but these last few have the white underbelly like the black austrolorps do when they hatch so I hope that means they will be a nice solid black.
DD really wants to take a Nice pair of blacks to fair

so far we have 9 ducks, 4 full feather black chicks, 2 light colored Nn and 6 black Nn. Look at all those necked necks! At least one of the black Nn came out of a green egg!

We think we ended up with one out of s greed egg with a double necked gene! Poor thing looked bald when it was wet!

Broody turkeys
The last couple I let sit out of self defense i swear! Lol if they have a clutch then i can gather the rest for incubation at my leisure. Otherwise they start incubating everything and then when i bring them inside i either have to put them straight into the incubator or they do not develop... sigh.
Our latest flunky managed to hatch 2 and had 3 that looked squished with the shell half on??? Oh and one of the 2 drowned in the water dish of course it was a bronze. So we turned broody out and brought the surviving black baby inside.
So to recap the weekend
12 surprise Nn
10 pekin ducks
1 black turkey
What a hatch right? Lol
I think we originally started with a dozen duck eggs this go round so 10 is really good! We did have 6 late deaths with the Nn eggs so not as great of numbers there but not bad and the turkey started with 8 .
