Did you know...
If you go to petfinder.com, and type in CHICKEN for breed, leave the ANIMAL field as is, and put in your zip, you'll come up with a ton of chickens needing rescue?
Just an FYI from the nutbag that patrols Metro Animal Services for chickens.

Metro hasnt' had any for a while... the last one that I got from there was a favorite. Mean as a snake and hated every other chicken on the planet except for my silkie roo, with whom she had 5 frankenchicks.

They had a REALLY beautiful BR roo and a game roo once, but i couldn't take any more roosters at the time.
I'm probably closer than you think- I work in Louisville near Preston

LOL, I live in the Portland Neighborhood, in a good section still.

Did you see the ad on Craigslist for the pairs of chickens this guy had in Bullit County? He had OEGB Blue/Reds and another kind.

It kinda s*u*c*k*s that here in Louisville we can only keep 1 roo and 4 hens. I am trying to find a place out in the country to move too that I can afford.

When you go on Craig's list and get the main menu screen with all the different categories on it, look under Farm and Garden section. You will see anything from equipment to animals listed under there.

Also check out Kijiji.com they are similar to CL.

Another good resource is FreeCycle.com. On that one people list what they have to give away for free.

I scroll through PetFinder all the time to look at animals I can't have. I never thought of searching for chickens though, what a great idea! Something new to torture myself with
