I adopted a possible rooster from a family member and I'm thinking it's a Silkie but I'm honestly just not sure. They purchased 25 chicks from Tractor Supply and he is one of them. He is about 4 months old and is EXTREMELY aggressive, he attacked me tonight while trying to take photos. I thought he was mellow and then he came right at me. I have roosters but none have ever been aggressive or attacked me. Thoughts on breed?

He is definitely a silkie but his comb is more of a straight comb and he doesn't have the feathered legs. I've heard this can happen with hatchery birds from time to time. Sorry he is aggressive. Good luck! :)

Hatchery birds are often far from the breed standard. Which is fine if buyers don't care. BUT, with a aggressive streak like his, I would cull or rehome him. I wouldn't spend any $$$ having him psycho- analized. There is NEVER a good reason to keep MEAN birds.

I'm going to give him a trial period and see if he mellows out but I have a feeling I'm going to have to cull him. I have a toddler and don't want to risk it.
