Hi,

I have three hens in my backyard, one of them, a barred rock is not laying eggs. They showed up at our backyard about a year ago and were probably about six months old because the other two started laying eggs shortly thereafter.

She sometimes does the same pre-laying behaviors as other hens, including sitting in the nesting box for hours. Sometimes she would suddenly make very weird noises I never hear from the other chickens while sitting in the nesting box.

The other two are laying just fine, all of them look happy and healthy.

What's wrong with my chicken?

She looks broody.
Are you positive she’s not laying? How do you know for sure?
I have just 3 hens and I spend a lot of time with them, no way she's laying.
That being said there was one time a few months back when I thought she laid an egg but now I think it's probably from one of the other chickens.

:welcome She sure appears to be in excellent condition. I have never had one, but others have had non laying hens.
Does this mean she will never lay eggs? I don't need the eggs, but it seems like she really wants to lay eggs.

With her being this broody, she’s just not going to lay eggs. That’s how it works.
When she’s done being broody, she’ll likely go back to laying.

Didn't hear any noises on the video....or not enough to make a guess.
Comb looks like she could be in lay.
She is panting, was it hot out?

Might be time for a more hands on exam:

Saying she's broody is highly speculative, she doesn't look broody there.
Here are my go-to signs of a broody hen:
Is she on nest most the day and all night?
When you pull her out of nest and put her on the ground, does she flatten right back out into a fluffy screeching pancake?
Does she walk around making a low cluckcluckcluckcluckcluck(ticking bomb) sound on her way back to the nest?
Are there feathers in the nest, and missing from her breast/belly?
If so, then she is probably broody and you'll have to decide how to manage it.

Oh, and...Welcome to BYC! @Shchora
Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.

It's easy to do, and then it's always there!

I couldn't catch that weird noise on the video, I am pretty convinced that she is not broody. And she has more than two fingers gap between the pelvic bones but I know that she isn't laying. We're in Brooklyn NY. In the video she decided to come nest inside the house that's probably why she's panting
