Announcement Advertising Updates - Premium Feather Membership - PFM

Ad bloc plus will block the ads on fire Fox Fox but will not let me post a reply. The site works fine other than that.

Is there a predator program that does this? Most sites will send a message asking me to white list their site.

I just now noticed that there are ads between posts that used to only appear on my phone when I was not logged in. But I had remained logged in since yesterday. Will these ads go away if I log off and back on....
Testing now...

Nope. So what does it take to become a PFM?

@HuskerHens18 not sure if you've already gotten an answer or not but some of that tracking stuff you can turn off. For example, Google has a "Do Not Track" option which I have turned on and if you are on a mobile device, make sure to turn your location OFF. Clearing your cache, history, and cookies regularly can also help with that. Both on the browser and on all your apps in phone settings. And most apps have add settings too. Like Twitter, Facebook, etc. Facebook gets VERY specific and also makes it hard to find the settings. I turned a lot off on there. That said, a lot of those sites, especially Google, Facebook, and Twitter, actually have ad trackers built into websites!! I was amazed when I found that out at first and I used an app called Duck Duck Go for a while and I think they have an extension too. It basically blocks all of those trackers, including Google and FB but also malware, and makes the sites safer. And they don't keep track of you unlike Google. But it got to be kind of a pain to remember to open that app every single time so I gave up since I didn't really care that much anymore but it did work really well. But there are some ways to beat or minimize the tracking. That said, for BYC I like supporting and having the ads show

Hey all, thanks for the great discussion and feedback!

Believe me, I'd LOVE it if some huge company or philanthropist decided to pay all our bills, etc. so we could turn off the ads... but so far, all my emails and calls to Elon Musk, Warren Buffett, Jeff Bezos, and Bill Gates have all gone unanswered :(

We're working to try and find the perfect balance between too many and too few ads. We'll keep making tweaks, but at the end of the day we need to do what is best for the sustainability of the site in an ever-changing online world where companies like Facebook are gobbling everything up.

Again, we appreciate all your feedback and support. We'll keep tweaking things to improve the situations, but ads will always be a part of a service like BYC that is 100% free to the end-user, but still has many expenses on our side.

I'm sorry if this has been brought up before, but... Will there ever be a like. Lite Membership? I would love to support this site and get rid of the ads... But $60 is a lot.
We don't plan to offer this, but we'll keep looking for ways for peeps to win and earn the PFM's.

They are also on my tablet in desktop mode
Thanks for reporting! Is this still happening? Are ANY other PFM's still seeing any ads?

I'm not sure what you mean, but we've seen cases where ad-blockers don't play nice with the javascript and other programmatic features of the site. This is pretty much out of our control because it seems it's how the ad blockers interact with the core xenforo software that runs the forum.
