Hi everyone, I'm cross posting in order to get as much advice on additional care and breed ID as I can. The following is from my personal fb page.
Animal loving friends could y'all pls send prayers and positive thoughts for this poor baby? I got a call from the animal shelter asking if I could come out and help identify what breed of chicken they had taken in and look her over. I got out there and when I got my hands on her I could tell she was completely emaciated ,she is seriously just skin, bones and feathers. She also has an upper respiratory infection. She is in dire condition and the shelter isn't equipped to deal with poultry to that degree so I took her home to foster. So thankful they thought to call me! Started her on antibiotics, nutritional supplements, probiotics, and will worm her tonight. She stood like a game bird , upright stance with tail erect and wings dropped. She also has a metal tag that is embedded in her skin. I don't know if she will make it but it won't be from lack of trying! Thank you Jason Huggins for being available to guide me on a Sunday! We are calling her Poppy, short for Popsicle since she was found by the Frio river. Fingers and feathers crossed.
