Hello All!
I had a question about weight loss for my chubby Cayuga, Fonda. Her "food boob" is much larger than all of the other ducks in my flock. I have a mixed flock of runners, Welshies, khaki Campbells and cayugas. The one other Cayuga doesn't have as prominent a keel and they are all fed the same diet of 16% layer pellets, greens and the occasional scatter of meal worms. I've reduced their feed and only give them pellets two times a day (mornings they are LOUD, and demand breakfast) and before bed. Over the winter there was less space to forage on, and I've recently allowed more ranging space. Also, when I feed them now I scatter their pellets among the short grass so they have to hunt for them.
My question is, 1.) Is my Cayuga very overweight? (I know Cayugas are medium weight birds and I've felt her food boob for obstructions or lumps but it just feels very downy and squishy)
And 2.) What else can I do for Fonda to encourage her weight loss and help her out?
The rest of my flock seems happy and not visibly chubby. Thank you for all suggestions and advice! 🙂

I have it saved, But I got it from one of @Miss Lydia s posts
I saved the image onto my desktop but it won't open, says is broken or whatever it said. I can't find it anywhere else. Did you save it as an image from Miss Lydia's post or do you have the whole post? If so, just send me the link to it and I'll bookmark it.

Just the image sorry!

It sounds like you are making good changes! I will admit that my girls get a bit chubby over the winter as they do not move around much. However, they seem to naturally become more slender during spring/summer/fall as they spend most of their time foraging and swimming rather than hunkering down to stay warm. How long have you had your ducks? Has Fonda always been a big girl, or has this been progressive? Is she as active as the others?
