Hello All!
I had a question about weight loss for my chubby Cayuga, Fonda. Her "food boob" is much larger than all of the other ducks in my flock. I have a mixed flock of runners, Welshies, khaki Campbells and cayugas. The one other Cayuga doesn't have as prominent a keel and they are all fed the same diet of 16% layer pellets, greens and the occasional scatter of meal worms. I've reduced their feed and only give them pellets two times a day (mornings they are LOUD, and demand breakfast) and before bed. Over the winter there was less space to forage on, and I've recently allowed more ranging space. Also, when I feed them now I scatter their pellets among the short grass so they have to hunt for them.
My question is, 1.) Is my Cayuga very overweight? (I know Cayugas are medium weight birds and I've felt her food boob for obstructions or lumps but it just feels very downy and squishy)
And 2.) What else can I do for Fonda to encourage her weight loss and help her out?
The rest of my flock seems happy and not visibly chubby. Thank you for all suggestions and advice!
