Advice needed on family and dogs

This happened a couple of years ago and yes the dog was ok after THAT attack. Unfortunately he was a tiny Pomeranian and one day he was let outside to “do his business” in a yard with one of those underground invisible fences, and something else got him. The neighbor found his body.:hit
A hawk tried to take my sisters Pomeranian once. Ever since she is terrified of hawks. I told her now she knows what it feels like to own chickens:gig

Cesar does more harm then good imo. I have read several books on dog training and watched videos of dog trainers to train our dog. She had several behavior issues when we first got her. Now her only problems are nibbling and jumping up. We are still working on those because she wont do that with me...just other people.
When she jumps up on people tell people to turn their back to her and ignore her... Them pushing her down or anything is going to give her the mindset that it is okay. If they ignore her, she will stop doing it.

Yup. Ive told them this. My dad is good about following this "rule" but other people are just like "oh she wants to say hi!" I bet based on this thread you can figure out who

Edit: my SO has had difficulty with this as well because "its annoying". I know hold her like a groomer would when he arrives home so she can learn to self calm even though she is excited. This helps him get in the door and gives him a chance to sit down with her so she greets him appropriately

I really can't stand when people tell me how to raise my dog :rantor ruin what I've taught them. I even had to pretty much train my husband on how to work with our dogs. He had a dog previously before we got married, but his training style is not mine. He likes to have a dog that can run loose but will stay near him, I always have my dogs leashed. I've had too many experiences at the veterinarian office with dogs that get hit by cars!

I agree. People dont understand how jumping up and "just being friendly" can be harmful. What if shes "just being friendly" to someone holding an infant? Ohhhh things change then...right? Come on people...think!:he

I know someone who has a dog that jumps up on people and on Halloween a kid was walking to go get candy at their door, the dog jumped and hurt the child! It's a friendly dog, but stuff happens and people don't realize this.

Lol! We have mostly trained our dogs not to jump on people, however my German Shepard absolutely adores infants and can’t resist getting up to see them when they come in the door. The funny part is that while she stands up to get a better view/sniff she tucks her front paws in and WILL NOT TOUCH the person holding the baby. This was not something we taught her, she does it on her own. (Note: I have never seen another dog do this and would not recommend not training your dog to not jump on people in the first place because I agree it could be harmful.)

Well,I my dog was never aggressive, but was extremely shy, and the things his show taught me to give him confidence worked...but, there is a great kid nam Ed Zach George..he’s got a lot of energy and is very positive.
