Advice on injured dog

I was wondering too! I hope she is OK.

Well we headed to the vet as soon as they opened up this morning, he said she was pretty mangled up. He gave her an antibiotic shot and some kind of shot for the pain. Cleaned it up again and stapled two of her puncture wounds closed and we were advised to keep the area clean. Sent us home with Cephalexin and Rimadyl. Cephalexin she will get for 14 days and then go back to get her staples removed. All of this for the price of $108.00.
I was kind of shocked expected it to be much more than that for all he had done, but very happy with that price.

When they were done with her I asked about the possible reason why she might have been attacked as these dogs have been together all their lives. She was in heat and the Saint Bernard was as well. We are going to get them spayed anyway but was just wondering if anyone has any experience if this will stop the fighting or at least lessen its severity.

I'm so happy your girl is getting better! I'm surprised that your vet bill was not higher!

She does appear to be better she will stand on her own, but still hasn't wanted to use the bathroom, she is eating and drinking (and loving the special meals).
She has also however managed to chew one of her staples out.

Getting them spayed may very well help, but there is the very real possibility that you may have two females that will always have a little tension between them. Multiple females without proper pack order in a home are infamous for this sort of thing, it will likely happen again. Spaying them is your best bet for behavior and health reasons. Best of luck!

Any dog with staples/sutures in wounds they can reach should be made to wear an Elizabethan Collar or the like. Your vet should have given you one? If not, head to your nearest pet store and pick one up cheap. It can save you money in the long run with infections and self mutilation.

The vet didn't give me one I should have asked, we don't have any pet stores around here and the vet is about 30 miles away.
I am trying to keep her from chewing it, the one that she got out did not look like it was in very well.

We are definitely getting them spayed as soon as possible, hoping it will prevent future problems.

I know that Vida, when she is in heat turns into a b.itchzilla.

She will snarl at the cat, snap at the cat, will nip Marley into submission...

Yep. This Shih Tzu turns into a holy terror. As soon as possibly able, we will be getting her spayed. She is unhappy during that time and I see no point in having to deal with her temper tantrums.
