First off, thank you to everyone who has given me advice and helped with questions for the last two weeks!

I am on the night of day 20. I had 19 eggs in the bator and I had them shipped. I had some bumps in the road but miracles happened and 8 have hatched already! 14 out of 19 are alive when I candled on day 17. So the crazy part is that the 8 that have hatched did it within 20-60 minutes! I thought maybe they were not okay but all 8 pipped, zipped and hatched within an hour! They all have been chatting non stop, standing and jumping around. 4 of them hatched on day 19 and I have moved those 4 into the brooder and they are eating and drinking! 4 are left in the bator.

My question here is I have one black australorp egg in there that seems to be struggling. He was the first one to pip. Now, the other eggs were smaller than this egg. this one seems to be pretty big. He pipped 24 hours ago and his hole has gotten bigger but I haven't seen much progress today. I can see the chick in there breathing and sticking his beak out of the hole. When I see it breathing I can see it still in the membrane layer thing but the beak sticks out of the hole and it seems like he isn't pecking anything. I'm wondering why he hasn't gotten out and if something is wrong. The other eggs all hatched so quickly could it be because this egg is much larger? I'm just looking for some advice here! Thanks again

He looks too big to turn in the egg. I'd open the hole bigger and pull back the membrane if the membrane shows no blood vessels. Then upen the end to the edges of the air cell and let the chick finish on its own.

How would I do this? With a tool or my hands? I have never assisted a chick out so I am nervous and don't want to do something wrong

I lost three yesterday from the same reason- when the pip hole is big and they are too big or slow to zip they can dry out and get shrink wrapped. I second what walnut hill said, Pick away some shell, and see if you can - with warm water- moisten that inner membrane so the so the chick can try and get out.

check out the * when to assist* part in the learning center, in any of the incubation links I know it's in the dry incubation link. But it will give you more info on how you can help Good luck

Read this article, and prepare a well lit, warm, moist "operating room". Your bathroom counter with the shower running is ideal.

If there are fresh blood vessels, the chick isn't ready. You can still open the end of the egg, but you will need to moisten the membrane while the vessels recede. I like neosporin without pain reliever. Just wipe the entire exposed membrane and it will remain moist and supple.
