Loved the photos and information of the Mousebirds. What an interesting flock. They look like I want to go smooth down the feathers on their heads. lol Nice that you feed them fruit in the winter.

While I dislike mice intensely - mouse birds are definately a different kettle of fish. Such cute birds.

'My' turkey flock is growing. Routinely 3 hens and 8 poults are showing up for feed. The 'transmitter' hen has been accepted by the two mothers. Most of last years birds including the bearded hen have not showed up so far.

Walked to the mail box. Got to see the Phalarope do the "broken wing" dance. She put on a pretty good show.

On the way back, found the remains of one of the wild turkey hens.

Last year the flock maxed out at 28 birds. Today there were 4 hens and 8 poults, I also think that I saw a solo hen with at least one small poult. She and the poult were going into the underbrush to the South. I'll be on the lookout for her/them.

Today I heard highpitched cries, almost like whistles, and two toned. Overhead I saw hawk-like birds circling and soaring. Their tails were wedge-shaped, narrow where they met the body. I think they were Red shouldered hawks, possibly fledglings.

Love the mousebirds! I had the pleasure of feeding whitebacked mousebirds at an aviary recently.

Mousebirds are mostly easy going birds and tolerate the presence of humans more than most garden birds do. They are easily tamed too, but they are messy eaters and poopers so I personally would not want one as a pet in the house.

The new turkey hen came in early this morning. She has at least 7 and perhaps as many as 9 quail sized poults - I was unable to get an accurate count. Original hens and poults arrived and after a lot of fanning and some flogging the new hen and poults left. Wonder how long until they will be accepted.
