Feeding Wild Birds

I have a lone black headed grosbeak at the feeder this morning. First I've seen in a week or two. They must have an abundance of food this time of year.

Have i mentioned how much I love these birds? They are striking.

Had two Western Tanagers show up today.

I usually only see them in the spring.

First hummingbird of the year today. I didn't put out a feeder because I didn't see any last year.

Getting the syrup ready now.

Two 'new' hens and their 9 poults came in early this morning, and as they left the three 'original' hens and 8 poults arrived. There was no fighting, but so far they are still separate flocks. Put out water bowls for them.

I had a male goldfinch sneak down to my melon vines and could not figure out why until I remembered I had just watered them and it was in the 90’s today. I refilled all the usual water sources and sprayed more water on the plants for good measure.

Me too. I know we'll have them here but I haven't seen one in years.
