Another question...how hot is too hot for these chicks? Thank you for any help or insight!

Sorry to hear about your lose. This time of year we all have to strugle through these hot days. Here in the desert we've just had a period of days reaching 110 to 115. We've raised pheasants and Sebright Bantams for a long time now and a few things thats helped us make it through the long summers in AZ are (in order of importance) fresh cool water, shade, good ventilation, and lots of kool afternoon treats. By 4 weeks we always have our birds out of the brooder and on the ground, with light at night. I ice their water twice in the afternoon and serve frozen watermelon about 3pm. Sounds like your getting some real good medical advice and I hope my two cents worth will help you beat the heat. We run around 200 pheasants and about 50 Sebrights, and its still sad to lose one of the little ones. Keep up the good work.

Poor babies, Do you have electrolytes in her water? I know this additive helps with stress, and is loaded vitamins.
A friend of mine (who has raised chickens for a long time) suggested to me to use this additive until it is gone.
By that time, the chicks have grown allot and would be moved into their permanent home. My supply will last all summer (through this horrible heat)
and seems to continue help with my 9 week old girls.

I don't have the additive in front of me to give you a name, but I bought it a Tractor Supply (they are very helpful).
A little goes goes along way, I just sprinkle into their water supply until it turns yellow.
I'm sure it will help all of your chicks

Got a small dog pen and fixed it up today with a tarp on top for shade, so they could get outside with more air flow. I put ice in their water and I'm going to Tractor Supply tomorrow to get the vitamins/electrolyte solution. I went to Tractor Supply and told them my chicks' symptoms and they directed me to the Duramycin-10. I think maybe I misunderstood and they meant for me to get the vitamins/electrolytes. My chicks don't have any respiratory issues, they just seem lethargic or drunk. They do seem to be eating/drinking and pooping, though. I hope I haven't waited to long to try poly-vi-sol or the vitamins. Wish me luck. Can I do the electrolyte solution with the poly-vi-sol? I really don't want to lose another chick. I'm crossing my fingers I don't find one dead in the morning.

Ok. I think my new name should be Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman. The saga continues...

Anyway, I don't think now what they have is heat related. I've kept them outside in a dog pen with a tarp over it and a fan on them with ice in their water. I bought poly-vi-sol and it has helped a little. My worst one that is not eating/drinking (I force feed her yogurt and stick her beak in water), I separated her and thought for sure she would be dead this morning, but she's still here. She can sit up but keeps her little head down. Then my second worst that wobbles around everywhere she goes was FEET UP this morning!!

I got my plastic baggy ready to declare her dead and saw here moving. I flipped her over and she's still wobbling/walking around!??) I've only got one out of five that seems ok, but I hate to separate her because she might get depressed. A couple seem to be doing better, but sit with their head down.

Turns out that I thought I had medicated feed, but I didn't. I've looked through all the forums and listened to all the advice and I just don't know what to do. I'd take them to the vet, but I'd hate to spend more than it would take to replace them. I know that sounds harsh. Someone that has a poultry degree (not on the forum) suggested coccidiosis. Since I don't have medicated feed afterall, could that be it? I read that it causes bloody poo. They have not had that. From what I can tell, their poo looks normal, only the first one that died had runny poo and I think maybe it's because she had not eaten in awhile. I have switched them to medicated feed, by the way.

If anyone has anymore insight, I welcome their opinions!!

it still sounds like what i said it was. they dont always had to have bloody poop.. I have no idea if you can get it there, maybe call them? i got mine from mcmurry hatchery, cause i have no place here at the road of the road to get it.. but i wouldnt wait to much longer trying to see what they might have , just get it and give it to them.. You can still give it to them if they had the mareks vacc... it wont hurt them.. you just cant give med feed with coccidiosis... and you give 2 teaspoon in a gallon of water .. is what ti said on my package.
