Advice please, How to deal with the neighbor and their dogs Update pg5

You can get them at WalMart in the Sporting Goods Department, so I suppose Target or any other Sporting Goods store would have them. they can range in price anywhere from $40.00 and up. They use a CO2 cartridge to give them power.

Hmmm, $40.oo paint,,,4 cents .22

paint, closer to the dog than I care to be,,,,, .22 up to a safe 100 yards away..

paint, at maximum range, probably
would not sting enough to prevent future visits... .22 guarantees no future visits...

and yes, I hope to shout, paintball would be abuse.. that is what we are after, isn't it??

I would be very cautious about catching a dog in these circumstances.. I have been bitten twice , THAT is abuse..

The only reason I would paintball a dog is to send a message to the owner. A highly effective and non negotiable message. It states in no uncertain terms that your dog was on my property, he was targeted, and SHOT. Next time it will not be paint. When an owner is looking at a paint ball splatter, they cant say that the dog was in thier living room being innocent, and it often has the psychological power to scare!

Dont crank the gun to a high and potentially harmful setting, thats not the point. On a normal setting they can leave a nasty bruise on unprotected skin, and will startle a dog, and an owner! It doesnt just brush off either. After a succesful shot, call the neighbor, or go by and say, I got them this time, next time, its a bullet. They have been warned.

It is also intensly satisfying to send a tresspassing dog scurrying to the woods with a splatter of paintballs smacking its rump!

Paintball guns on normal settings is not abuse, nor is it prosecutable.... we shoot these things at each other in game settings. Dont turn it up to a dangerous setting. You have to live next to these people.. you know what will work best, and more importantly, what you can live with in your self. I could never SSS, Its not the animals fault thier people are unaccountable. But I can be, if even to myself.

Again, Good Luck! You have my thoughts.

Anything that leaves a bruise or causes the animal pain can be prosecuted in most jurisdictions. It just depends on the interpretation of the laws by local authorities. Heck, I read an article about somebody that just painted "go home" on a dog and the police were looking for the person so they could charge him/her for vandalism!!

If you're gonna shoot it, kill it. Shooting to kill a dog to protect your property is legal in most places (but check your local laws). I know it sounds dumb, but you get in a lot less trouble killing the dog than just hurting it.

I just came across this thread. I can guarantee dfunnyfarm that if she lives in Miami or Johnson county she will get no help from the county law enforcement people. My 91 year old Mother was mauled by a pack of dogs on the county line while getting her mail. They had a kind of Ho Hum attitude about the whole affair. She walked to her house(about 50 yards)with the dogs biting her lower legs. She said that she felt that if she went down they would have killed her. She then wrapped her legs in towels and drove herself to the hospital.

Also keep in mind that those dogs can run your horses through a fence! She should pay for all your losses.... call the sheriff. SSS if you have to.

This is a very interesting thread. Some great ideas. I am going to get about a dozen laying chicks this spring. I have been reading many of these threads to learn as much as I can before I get them.

I am going to build a strong coop and run this spring. The run will have a roof. We have racoons, Coyotes, and lots of cats in our area. The coop will be locked up securely every night. The chickens will only free range when I am working in the garden. I almost forgot to mention that we also have bald eagles and various hawks in our area.

I have a bit of a concern about a neighbor dog. We already have an open case with animal control because the owners refuse to keep her on their property. We reference our case number when calling animal control now. She has gotten into our trash multiple times and we finally had to start keeping the trash can in our garage until trash day. She also comes onto our property and starts barking at anyone getting out of their vehicle. I can not use anything like a .22 because neighbors are too close. Our lots are only 1 1/4 acres. I like the paint ball suggestions. I will check with our county ordences to see what my rights are. I was considering a pellet or BB gun but I think the paint would be more effective.

One idea that a friend of our suggested was inserting a strong laxitive in some hot dogs and then leave them laying on the ground by the trash can. Maybe the owners will get the idea.

If the dogs are posing a threat to any kids, get your child protective services involved. They have power and get results like I've never seen! Someone gave me this hint because it worked for them.

If she is working for her mom she isnt unemployed. Just lazy it sounds like to me. I betcha her mom would be proud to know her credentials are going to be tied up and basically worthless due to her daughters stupidity and laziness.
Shut em down, file the charges. Sometimes you gotta "hit em with a brick" to get their attention.
BTW if you have to t.c.b. call them to come and get the carcasses. They will KNOW that their dogs were on your property. Remember thats your property for your use not a doggie playground as your neighbor seems to infer.

Saddly, this wouldnt work well, cause if the dog is out running around loose, they clearly dont care where it is doing its business.... So if it gets the runs, they will just leave it outside, and the dog will come around more often since it found such yummy treats that one time!

Good luck. I like the idea of taking it to a shelter far away, but sadly the owners will just get another one, and that one may be worse.

I like bear spray. when it comes and barks at your car or guests, spray her. She wont do it again. Just dont get any on you, or you will be rolling around in pain right next to the dog.
