Agrees.

It's not a lash egg.
Never seen one of these(malformed membrane) inside a shelled egg,
usually they are 'laid' before another can come along and they get shelled together.

Is bird molting?
Can get some funky eggs around molting time.

It was from one of 9 white leg horn
They are called lash eggs it happens give oyster free choice not with food not all need it

They do have access to free choice oyster shell - it's hard to monitor though I suppose if each one is using it.

Well, that's bad news.

@ACM, here is an article on 10 Abnormal Chicken Eggs & What You Need To Know! Lash eggs are #2 on that list. Lash eggs are an indication of a serious infection and it may lead to having to cull your hen, or it may die on it's own in short time.

Here is a YouTube video of a lash egg that looks like your picture.

Another lash egg, but it looks a little different than yours.

Another lash egg video with a homemade treatment option to try to treat the infection.

Good luck.

Hmm... The one my sister had contained no yolk, just slimy membrane.

After watching the first two videos, the first one is not a lash egg, but the second one is. After everything I have read regarding lash eggs, they are usually firm and cheesy because it is infection that has balled up in the shape of an egg.

The one that my sister found was definitely just slimy membrane. Contained nothing firm and no yolk.

That is kind of what I was thinking too, where two eggs got packed in there together! They are moulting or at least probably would have been when the egg had been laid.

I edited my post with YouTube videos to indicate the general BYC consensus that the first video was not a true lash egg and that the second video was a good example of a lash egg. Sometimes YouTube videos are not accurate, so it's good that people here on BYC took the time to correct it. I hope my edits clear up that post and the information about those YouVideos is corrected. I have never dealt with malformed eggs or lash eggs, so all I attempted to do was to post YouTube information I had watched. I had no intention of passing on bad information and thank the BYC community for the feedback.

Now days you can find just about anything on the Internet, correct and incorrect, unfortunately. That is what’s so dang scary about the WWW.

There is one thing for sure about BYC. You definitely will get differing opinions on most any subject, however, after a bit the correct information will make itself known.

There is no need to feel bad about the erroneous video. Until we actually experience (or constantly read about) some of these chicken maladies we don’t know for sure. That is the wonderful thing about BYC.

Just a side note: my DH will tell me something he had read on the fabulous FB that sounds a little bogus to me. I tell him time and again to check that info out on snopes.com before he clicks that share button. We just never know.

Not to take anything at all away from BYC (this site is so invaluable), but another website that I like for accuracy is The-Chicken-Chick.com. These are two wonderful sites for all things accurate about chickens.

I have been lucky with the internet in that I have watched many videos on various subjects and have learned a lot. Most repairs around the house have been posted somewhere online and YouTube is a good source. Sometimes the people posting the video get it wrong, but I can live with that as long as we attempt to correct it. The good people here on BYC forums will attempt to make corrections without being critical. I think that is good. Obviously, there are many issues where people will have differing opinions and I enjoy those conversations too.
