Many years ago I would spend summers catfishing with my Grandpa on the Mississippi river in Wisconsin. We used rods and reels with nightcrawlers. Now my own family has taken to fishing in Massachusetts and I want to show them the chalange of catfishing. My husband likes to fish for bass and trout and that is completely different from catfishing. How can we go fishing as a family and fish for different types of fish in the same location? Each type of fishing requires a different set up on the rod and I'm looking for ideas on how to compromise. Any thoughts?

Get your DH a good baitcaster or an ultralight for father's day an tell him you want a medium action 6 ft ugly stick for mother's day. But make sure it comes with a decent reel with no less than 8 ball bearings..

practice casting and get a boat...it gets you to more places faster!...my htought would be get boat situated near (casting distance) from shore...with some stumps around you and some fairly open water a long cast on theother side...then get as many poles are allowed and rig thme different ways and cast them in appropriate places...I think you might need to compromise and target different stuff at different times...or you could just forget the whole thing and got after saltwater stuff...it always amazes me what you can catch there!

A boat is unfortunately a luxury we can't afford right now, thus my delema.
Hubby and I just got new rods and reels this weekend so that we could pass on our old ones to the kids. He thought I was crazy when I bought 20lb test line, but my rod and reel can handle it. I planned it that way! He on the other hand, went with the lighter weight set up that's rated up to 10lbs. Maybe I will have to get him an ugly stick for fathers day
