Does any one else have ducks that are affectionate? If so, how do they like the attention?
My duck Sprightly, is VERY affectionate. She will quack until I come over, then if I lower my hand she runs over and puts her head into my hand. She LOVES her face being touched, over her head, her cheeks. She will go all sleepy just resting with a full face masssage.
My other girlie, Dougie, only likes her neck being stroked, though she still lets me touch her face. I figure that they both trust me quite a bit. I only pet them if they want, it's entirely up to them.
So I'm interested, how affectionate are your ducks? What behaviours do they show? Does anyone else have a duck that loves face massages? 😂

Ours are basically jerks 🤣🤦🏽‍♀️That may stem from the fact I have children who like to snuggle them and instead of allowing the ducks to get comfortable with them and come to them they go to the ducks and have from the get go. I guess my husband included in that…ok they’re not actually jerks, they just don’t care to be bothered, they will follow up but don’t want to be touched. We have 4 adults and 4 babies. Unfortunately we went out of town when the babies were 2 weeks old and when we came back they aren’t as keen about us now as they were. (Predator instinct kicking in).

My 4 Indian Runner ducks are friendly but flighty. They used to love sitting with us and being close to us. Now, after a year, they are more stand-offish, unless you bring food or treats. If I sit still and quietly in the run, they will eventually come over to me, but they don't want to be touched or petted so much. It's okay though. I get it.

None of mine are affectionate, unfortunately. Most of them will come up to me when I have food but none of them want to be touched or held. ☹️
Oh well. I enjoy them anyway. Practically nothing cuter than a duck.
Very true!
I'll be adopting some ducks this year to expand my somewhat lonely flock of two girls- and I am very prepared that the newbies will NOT want face massages like my Sprightly 😂 Hopefully I'll earn their favour in time and they'll let me close, though, or else I shall admire them from afar!

I wonder how my two will be, a year from now, with new ducky friends-
I don't expect a lot, but hopefully they'll still want to be around me!

I think if you make a point to go out there and spend time with them every day, that will go a long way. I go out in the morning and then in the evening to lock them up. Some days, I have more time and can sit with them. When I was on leave from work, I spent a lot of time with them and that was when they were more comfortable around me.

I will say we have 1 of our duckling that is more apt to us petting it. But I’m also pretty sure it’s either blind or has neuro issues…it will peep peep peep and then follow our voice and let us rub its chest/belly.

This is Donald. Donald is 3 weeks old (pekin/Rouen mix), half the veins had “disappeared” in it’s she’ll midway through incubation. Donald has a bald patch on its head and is def “off.” Donald is also a favorite of mine and my daughter.
