African versus Brown Chinese

I am pretty sure true African geese all have the dewlap most African from Hatcheries are really Brown Chinese

African goose
The African goose is a breed of domestic goose. The African goose breed most likely originated in China, despite the name. They may possibly be related to the wild swan goose a smaller species of goose, just like their close cousin the Chinese goose. Though they share some similar characteristics, the two can be distinguished by the African's larger dewlap and different knob shape. African geese are also quite a bit heavier than Chinese, and are better known for their docile temperaments. Also, they are known to lay far fewer eggs than Chinese geese, 25-40 eggs per year for the African goose vs. 40-65, or, in extreme cases, up to 200 eggs per year for Chinese geese.

Thanks, from the description, Wilma would be Brown chinese. Sounds like that is good from an egg perspective. She has already laid 5 eggs in the last two weeks. I wasn't expecting any till next year. :ya

Sometimes Chinese will lay in fall of the year too then again in spring How’s your predator problem been lately

I've never heard of a mini African or Brown Chinese though. Lucy is maybe 10 lbs, and other than knob development she isn't really growing.

I got Lucy from a farm supply tank of mixed goslings. The two Toulouse I got at the same time are normal. I have no idea what she is, and to some extent I don’t entirely care one way or the other African versus Chinese. Lucy is tiny, and that is what is puzzling.

It could just be in her genes not knowing what the parents looked like they may have been small too Lucy is adorable and if other wise healthy then small doesn’t really matter .My Toulouse goose Missy is on the small size stopped laying egg in her 4th year is other wise healthy I love her to bits

Nothing since Fred the Gander was eaten. Still 4 ducks and Wilma the goose. I want to build them a run and star again but the state is putting a road through my land and will take my house and my barn. Anything I do will just be lost and sunk cost. Once the road comes through, I can rebuild a better place for the ducks.
