Against the odds-Slushie's and Chubby's babies <3. updates.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you too!!!!!!

I know you probably don't have the time, but if you wanted to make your own styrofoam incubator/hatcher, it isn't that hard to do and doesn't cost as much as a store bought incubator. It is good to have a back-up intensive care unit, just in case you need it. Just a suggestion. I know it may not be practical right now.

I wish I could come over and help!

well we were going to build a styrofoam incubator, but my parents were afraid of it catching on fire, so we built a huge wood one. i was already making a little box shelter for the ducks in case the wanted to get out of the sun or anything, so we just turned it into the incubator. we put foil and stuff on the walls so it wouldn't mess up humidity. its so big we have to use a heat lamp on a dimmer switch to get it to the right temp. even with a 60 watt, it was barely getting to 80. i hope i get some babies, even just one, just one would be okay.

I can understand your parents' concern, but I can also assure them that we had no problems with our styrofoam incubator. We kept it in a room where no pets could disturb it, though. I'm not sure if that was part of their concern. The light bulb was not touching the styrofoam either.

How long was it at 80? It really needs to be at 99.5 or really close. Do you have it near 99.5 now, I thought I read that you fixed it. But, if you don't have a fan, I think it needs to be closer to 100.

it was at 80 before we put the eggs in. we were trying to stablize it, and for days it never got any higher, so we ran to the food store and got a heat lamp and then the temp was perfect. its a still air so the temp has been steady around 100 with a few small temp spikes or drops for a tiny bit since the first one. normally its pretty stable.

OK, good, thanks for clearing that up for me. I was a little worried about 80 degrees, but it sounds like you have got it running just fine, except for the minor thermometer problem.

each day, the cloudy areas seem to shrink! only on one they seem to be growing. that poor egg is totally alone now! my bator looks hilarious though. i've got eggs in one corner, eggs in the middle, eggs in another corner and then one egg all alone. it looks funny. i guess the eggs don't like each other! HAHA. just kidding.
