Usually as long as he can see the other birds he's fine. If he can hear them but not see them depression sets in. He has to be able to see and interact, but not necessarily physically mingle.Can a single rooster thrive living next to the hens in his own pen??
Usually in this situation I'll give him some treats he can offer to the girls, they come running and he feels like he's part of the flock even when isolated.
