IMO, picking him up and carrying him around is a dominant behavior. You have complete control of him and he knows it. That is why he stopped crowing.
So as long as he does not challenge you (pecking, spurring, etc..), I don't see a problem.
But if he ever does get "cocky" with you, grab him and pin him to the ground until he stops moving. And then some. Re-assert your dominance.
