We have a English blue Orpington Cockerol (about 4 months) that we got not that long ago along with two pullets. He had been overly aggressive with the pullets so we were trying to introduce him to the older hens and this happened. Both of them were bleeding and that went on until we intervened. The black hen has two chicks (you can’t see in video) so I think that is why she wasn’t backing down. This also happened with one of our other hens but she ran away pretty quickly. Is he just an overly aggressive rooster? How long does this usually last? He was so aggressive to the younger pullets that we had to move him, are all Roos/cockerels like this? And feedback or advice would be appreciated.

In general, cockerels should not be making hens or pullets bleed.

Aggressive toward the pullets in what way? Was he drawing blood? How many pullets did you have with him, just the 2?

I wouldn't put him with the hen and chicks.

@centrarchid might have some good advice.

I just uploaded it to YouTube so you should be able to see it now. So it’s not normal? Would it be safest just to get rid of him, because we honestly don’t really want to deal with an overly aggressive rooster. We were thinking about just getting some straight run blue Orpingtons and hoping for a Roo and then getting rid of him.

He would chase them around and even after they would run away he wouldn’t leave them alone. He would peck but Never drew blood with them though. I believe there were 4 pullets with him at one point but most of the time he was just with the other two Orpington pullets. They came from the same people so maybe that why he never actually made them bleedm? But I don’t know for sure

You should either think about getting rid of him or separating him from everyone else in his own pen. I've never seen a cockerel attack a pullet or a hen like this. This to me is not normal. When then mate with them it doesn't included pecking them or ruffling up their feathers like her is, usually they do that with other Cockerels.

A 4 month old cockerel is like a 15 year old boy: all hormones and no manners. I would not put him with any birds smaller than him, not until he learns how to behave.

He's starting to want to mate with the pullets and he's establishing his place in the pecking order. If he's really incessant about it you might try separating him from all the girls for a bit. I've never tried that before, I got rid of the boys and intend to let the older girls teach my roo his manners. I've had better luck that way than with clutchmates.
