So you would put down a rooster just because he was a rooster, but not because he was aggressive?
You told someone to keep the rooster to teach the kids not to be scared of animals. How would you feel if they did what you said and then one of their children got hurt by said rooster?
I know I'd feel absolutely horrible.

I find this offensive. Because you might not have thought they were in any danger. But they certainly did. And that in itself is a reason I would not stand and watch. That is not how you help someone fight their fears.
But they could easily have been hurt. Easily.
Roosters are a threat to children. My own rooster very nearly pecked a young girl in the face. I learnt from that. He was the loveliest boy ever. And yet he still did that.
Not something I want repeated.

Be offended all you want. Offence is taken not given.

"you might not have thought they were in any danger." hum well I guess I was right since every time it happened no one was even the slightest bit hurt. Not even a scape of the knee.

I'm not here on this earth to help people fight their fears. Especially irrasional ones. I am here to protect my family from harm. To provide for them. So your lecture can be saved for someone else.

We just purchased a rooster a few weeks ago, we only have a flock of 5 hens. When we first brought him home and for the first week or so he was wonderful. He seemed very sweet and gentle. Starting about a week ago he started attacking my smallest girl, he tried to attack my oldest girl who's job it is to feed them in the morning. She tells me he only did it once and I wasnt aware he was going after her. I thought it was only the smallest, who is 3 and I've had a rooster who did this before. We quickly got rid of that one. But I thought it may just be her small size, so I havnt left her alone with this one because of it . Well, now this rooster is also attacking me anytime I go into the coop. He grabbed my sleeve this morning and left a red mark on my wrist. I'm scared to enter the coop and so are my girls.
Obviously, we cant have this. My question is, is there anything that can be done to change this? Or do we simply need to get rid of him? He's a beautiful rooster and seemed great in the beginning, but no matter how beautiful or sweet I will not have a rooster that attacks. My girls, or myself. The first one he did it to was the smallest like I said, and I had to get aggressive with him and shove him away so I'm guessing he's attacking me now because I'm a threat?
Just saw this video. We are having issues as well with an aggressive rooster. We plan on trying today. Hope it works.

That first part UM yeah. I even stated why. So?

So you want me to tell them everything to do with that rooster. I said teach them. I didn't say tell them once and let them have at it. Get some common sense man. Teaching takes time and supervision. Did you just let you kid run off to the playground? No! You go and supervise.

Based on experience, I do not think you will develop a better relationship with the rooster long-term. Presenter in video did several things that promoted aggression in the rooster and stressed the flock in general. I would run him and others actively behaving like that around chickens off my property.

Incase anyone is wondering. The rooster problem has already been solved. I will say, to the one mocking the "fear" I think that your interpretation of being afraid to go into the coop and mine may be very different. I've had sweet roos before and this boy was not being one. The reason to that has most likely been discovered, but no amount of my own aggression back towards him was going to change the fact that the children weren't safe around him.

A fear of fluffy socks is irrational.
A fear that roosters can hurt people is perfectly rational.

There you go again comparing totally different things. A fear that roosters will severely hurt people is not rational. Knowing that it can happen and taking measures so that it doesn't is rational.

Since you like to bring up thing that are not the same I'll actually bring one up that makes sense. Car crashes kill thousands very years and even more due to not wearing seatbelts. Now by you logic you should never drive or get in a car. That happens daily. Yet you still get in that car. Death by rooster.... Serious harm by rooster happens very rarely. I see more videos where a dog and an infant are playing and that I object to since dogs bite babies all the time and cause serious harm. You can try and pull up cases where rooster did harm but it doesn't get but one page, the 76 year old lady and that was way over exaggerated. Of course you will find people here saying it has happened, but it's not common.

Definitely, when children are involved, you don't want to take chances. Here are a couple examples of children being injured by roosters. You can find more if you look. There are even reports on some Indian news sites of roosters killing an eight month old child and a two year old. Always better to be safe than sorry in these cases.
