This is how people GET the fears of this kind of animal.

That's not true. Fear of animals is very common and most of the time, the fear was already there. When I was in the Army in Iraq, before we got to our post, we were in tents. This guy was deathly afraid of scorpions. I asked him if ever even seen one before. He said no, he was always scared of them. Never was chased by one. LOL At least his fear was rational since we were told always check for them.

Our first rooster, a tiny bantam beast, attacked everyone every day. We put up with him way too long! Since then we've had a very few miserable cockerels, and two adult rooster who decided to turn into attack birds, and we've learned that it's just not worth it!
I have from three to six cock birds in my flock, all polite individuals. Love having them!

I think you will find a lot of people will agree with LaFleche. I'm not here to have an argument. But frankly it disgusts me that you would talk so lightly of something like this.

Not here to argue yet you cam at me with an argument. What makes you think I am treating this like a joke. I find a few things funny about this and you think that's my whole premiss? I take injury and people's well being to heart. I just don't get why so many say they fear roosters. When did I ever say that it is funny that when people get hurt. I never did and you should apologize for even insinuating it.

My brother had a roo that attacked his wife constantly...never stopped. She was stuck in her car one morning for over an hr. They can really hurt a child. It’s kinda sad. You gat the roo to protect your flock and then when he does it’s a problem. I gave away a roo to another chicken owner whose flock was larger than mine (20+) and that seemed to work...he was too busy to be feisty.

There are plenty of stories out there and correct ones of roosters hurting people.
This is no joke. Please stop treating it like one.
Are we talking about cats or chickens?

It's like saying, more people die to a car crash each day than to being mauled by a lion.
So lions aren't dangerous.
Please.

So weird that you mention car crashes. I stayed within the realm of animals and more specific to pets. Why? Because, to show that there is way more to fear from them than roosters. That's why. Not this silliness about lions not being dangerous. You went way overreaching to make a point.

I haven't been raising chickens long, but a 6 foot tall adult scared of a 2 foot tall chicken is hard for me to understand..... Show them who's dominant and don't take crap from the rooster. They're not dumb - if you treat him with the same aggressiveness he's trying to show you, he will back down. Now kids maybe a diff. story, if the roo senses fear sure they're gonna be more aggressive. But you adults should be able to handle an aggressive chicken....right? or am i totally off on this?

Your example, link you posted. Well I read it and all there was was speculation as to what could have happened. That's not any help to your argument. I have had a few times seen wounds like that on my chickens. Guess what? I didn't even have a rooster at that time. I found out that an opossum tried to reach in and take her. I had the video of what happened So how can you throw at up when it was not proven to be the rooster, when It could be other animals.

Regarding the following discussion in this thread you are right. But I just linked to the picture as I have seen these kind of injuries inflicted by my own roosters.
After cutting their spurs and filing their nails on a regular basis there were no more such injuries to be seen, at least not with my hens.

Oh and it seems you want to question or mock my experience with chickens, as if you don't know these things. I assure you have have lots of experience with animals.

Rest assured I do not want or mean to mock your experience with your animals.

What I do want is to make unexperienced people aware of the harm that might be inflicted on young children if they continually expose them to a rooster that turned human aggressive. The wellbeing of children always a priority to me.

Even when they went after children and adults not once did I feel any fear or that any of them were under any sort of threat. Most of the time I was laughing to hard that people would run from them.

Now I'm not against getting rid or putting down a rooster for so many reasons. Being a threat to humans is not one that has ever crossed my mind.

I find this offensive. Because you might not have thought they were in any danger. But they certainly did. And that in itself is a reason I would not stand and watch. That is not how you help someone fight their fears.
But they could easily have been hurt. Easily.
Roosters are a threat to children. My own rooster very nearly pecked a young girl in the face. I learnt from that. He was the loveliest boy ever. And yet he still did that.
Not something I want repeated.

I say no. This is the perfect time to show the children to take charge and not be afraid. Teach your children. to be around animals. Or will you let them just be afraid of any little thing and end up on a you to video as an adult running away from a chicken LOL Or on second thought go ahead it is very entertaining.

Good series of demonstrations what not to do.

That's great that you remove their spurs.

The way I see it is if you have a rooster and are not experienced with them then that's why we are here talking about it. If a rooster is aggressive and the adults know about it then they should take measures to instruct the children. Teach them. If they are too young then keep them or the rooster away from each other. I just don't agree on killing a rooster for that reason. I don't even mind if a rooster has to be put down, and there are so many good reasons but fear is not one. Heck I put some down because they hatched and the bad luck was the were male. Can't have too many roosters.
