Aggressive rooster injuring humans

It's all the more heartbreaking because he's not always an unholy terror.
In my thinking, that's even worse than one that's aggressive all the time. At least with the always aggressive one, you're constantly on guard. With an unpredictable one, you can let your guard down after a bit, and not be prepared for an attack.

A dominant hen can send a cat packing, and alert for other dangers.

I feel your pain. We sent our rooster to feed someone else. I have not progressed enough to eat it myself. Roosters can be so dangerous. My broody hen just hatched a ton of chicks and I am quite sure we will be walking in your shoes very soon. Good Luck!

So far I have never had issues with roosters harassing chicks. It is in their best interest to protect them as they may be their progeny/offspring.

But I guess you may be talking about once they are raised having to make a decision since you said you sent your roo off? No shame in letting him feed another family. :thumbsup

Cats are ONLY a threat to chicks IMO. My hens laugh and point at the feral cats! And my dominant hen is as good as any roo if you ask me. She breaks up fights. Alerts to dangers. And never over mates the other hens! Plus, while she might peck me to death if I have a scratch on my leg, she has never attacked me. :D
