Aging Peafowl

Just curious everyone, how old are your oldest Peas? Verifiable age, I have a couple who are rescues and I am fairly certain they are pretty old, but no idea of actual age. My oldest verifiable one is my Cameo BS hen and she is approaching 18. I have had her since she was 3 or 4 months old. She is also my broodiest, she will sit tight and hatch every season if I let her.

All of my birds are young- the oldest is probably 5 or 6 and that would be Ice my black shoulder girl from the zoo.

Unfortunately, since then, our Senior Mr. Chuffy disappeared without a trace - I have no idea what happened to the poor guy. He was a real sweetheart, too.

Did you have him all 23 years? I wonder if the lack of response to the previous thread was due to most members being newer to Peas? Do you know how many long term Pea fanciers are on here and active? I have quite a few birds now who are in the 12- 15 year range and they seem to be going strong, but I was wondering when I could expect them to start showing their age. My IB pair are both rescues from different situations, and she has the Gnarliest looking feet you've ever seen

, so I am thinking she may be a senior citizen. She also had some egg troubles last year and the ones she did lay were not fertile, so while I've no clue as to her exact age I'm guessing older. How is Squeaky today ? I know most of the folks who are into the breeding aspect of it would probably not keep the aging ones, I'd love to hear from the pet owners who have. Thanks for responding!

Your's are really young. I vaguely remember when mine were all that young, now the majority are probably 10+.

I wish I could say I was a long-term pea owner, but actually I moved into a place where peas have been free ranging for over 20 years.
My neighbor remembers when Mr. Chuffy hatched all those years ago!

I'm sure you are right about most of the peapeople here being relatively new to peas (like me!).
But there must be other peapeople here who have had peas for decades...where are you???

Sorry to hear about Mr. Chuffy.

I have five that are 2009 models and a mature male that my neighbor dropped off, the rest are from 2011 (two feedstore rescues), 2012 and 2013, so nothing old here.
