Ahhh, the joys of winter chore time in the frozen north

Winter does make chore time more of a pain, but I love it. Water is the biggest bother - Can't just rinse out the waterer with the garden hose. Oh well, it's still a great time of year.

Plus, the the cold temps (+1 F) keep at least SOME of the riff raff from moving up here from the warmer states.

Mahonri-you know it's only a matter of a day or so later that any weather in So. Cal. hits us in AZ, so we'd better be prepared! I would love to see some snow that stays more than a few minutes! Maybe, just maybe, we in Kingman will have a white Christmas if that forecast is correct. Knowing how things go, though, it will be a dry cold.

We actually have about a foot of snow on the ground.
In my pic its been cleared out daily. Its basically been snowing everyday around here with highs in the 20-30's. We often have spells of sub zero temps and can get down to - 25º.

I just think its so funny when people from the south gloat about their warm winters but then in the summer while I'm enjoying lush green grass (spring-fall) and 80º highs they're looking at brown dirt and 100º all summer.
So I guess it all evens out in the end.

I actually like our 4 changing seasons. Always something new to look forward to but around early February I'm ready for Spring but have 3 more months of cold to wait out. Nice time to look at seed catalogs, plan the garden and get caught up on house cleaning.

I have lots of funny stories but now its everybody elses turn to share theirs.

Oh my, I had forgotten about this old post!

As for cleaning winter poo piles some of us have to wait until spring when it all thaws out.
Or shovel as needed. You can make a temporary compost piles outside the coop door of hauling it off in a wheelbarrow is impossible due to snow.
If it bothers you cover it occasionally with some pine shavings. Makes things smell better too.

Thank you. It actually doesn't really smell I was just wondering if it should be done or how often. You are right though it would be impossible to use the wheelbarrow right now.
