I bought 5 sebbie eggs and I am really stressing out . I know I can only expect a hatch rate of about 50% for these and am afraid I will do something wrong.
My bator temp is 99 and my humidity is 77% . Is the humidity high enough? When they pip, will they drown if the humidity in the eggs is too high?
I am on day 4. I will start misting them today and letting them cool for 15 minutes and then return them to the bator... Is that the right thing to do????
When do I candle them to see if they are growing?
Any help you can give will be appreciated.

This is my first time minus one other egg. I have my temperature at 100 in a sportsman. The humidity seems fairly good. They do say that they will drown when hatching if the humidity is to high. I am misting mine and letting them cool as was suggested in the goose egg incubation information post. I can candle mine right now. They are on day 8 I think. You do not see very much, and I definitely would not cull them till later. I hope we both get a good hatch. I once did 15 shipped goose eggs. One hatched. The others never developed. These are our own goose eggs and I can see some growth in most of them so I am encouraged.
Happy Hatching!

Keep an eye on the air cell when candleing if you are worrying about drowning. If the humidity is to high the air cell will not expand as it should, too low and the gosling may stick to the shell so it can't pip and zip like it should

Misting is just a quick way to cool and not needed if you will remove them from the bator to cool for 30 minutes each day starting at day 10.

I would lower the humidity to 60% and watch the air cell. By hatch time the air cell should be 25-30% of the egg.

I agree-77 is really high for day 4(I kept mine 55-60 til lockdown). Good luck on your hatch!

How are these hatches going?
I have one goose eggs pipped right now, hatching with a few duck eggs
The other goose eggs weren't fertile

I am on day 30 and none of them has hatched. 1 wasnt fertile, I quit and the others have not pipped internally and I think they are dead. I think my temp was too low. I am bummed

I mist 3 times a day. I have a book on geese that recommends to soak them in warm water for 10 seconds at each turning. I don't do that because honestly, its a PITA and spraying is easier. The humidity in my home is 20-40% so I do a LOT of misting... the wetter the better gives me best results. Now, if you live in a humid place that would not be good advice.

Oh Sheridangirl - I'm very sorry to hear about your eggs.
My little gosling has made a hole a little bigger than a dime, and he is making the cutest little sounds!
I want to help him but I'm being a good girl and letting him hatch himself

Well, I checked again this AM and I think one is moving and the air cell is bulging a little on the side. I hope I am not imaging things. I will keep you posted!
