Just fyi in my (limited) experience with birchen roos they start out all black for the first few months, maybe? Can't remember when my roo started showing his color. Then it started with some color on the neck, just a little, then more, then wings and saddle feathers. The rest of the body is solid black.

We have this bird, Foxy the Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. Not sure if male or female. We were thinking female, but starting to look maleish

Also, I'm thinking the Silver Laced Cochin is a girl. Males have a much larger comb at that age

Here is a pair of 10-11 week old cochin bantams. The Male has a bigger comb
