Forgot to mention it last night, but I also checked the malines' combs to see how the frostbite is progressing.
One of them is going to lose all of his points, including the back of the blade. The other one looks like he's only going to lose most of his points, but he'll probably keep one or two, and the back of his blade looks ok. Each of the malines pullets looks like they got the slightest touch of frostbite on the tips of a few points. Their combs are much smaller, barely popping up above their head feathers.

No issues at all with the buckeyes small combs?

Not so much as a suspicious speck.

Speaking of the buckeyes

Looks like we'll be getting some brown eggs soon!

One of the buckeye cockerels seems to have frostbite on his toes.

At first I thought it might be bumblefoot, but then I was able to zoom in on a few close photos and it definitely looks like frostbite in the process of self amputation. I spent about half an hour out there trying to sneak a peek at everyone's feet, it doesn't look like anyone else is affected.

We did have some suspicious activity in the corner next to the waterer though! I think we're about to finally get started on egg production!

Rose is by far the smallest chicken in the coop. Next to everyone else she practically looks like a bantam!

Some more Rose appreciation, just because

Production is really starting to get going! The high today is 21 and we're collecting eggs for the valentines day hatch, so we'll be driving out to the farm every few hours to keep the eggs from getting too cold.

Husband went out around 9a and got two brown eggs (one of them still slightly tacky!) And he said one of the malines pullets squatted for him! So who knows what's gonna hatch. We'll have to keep an eye on combs to tell if we have any straight malines.

We hadn't seen an egg from Rose for two days, then yesterday evening we had two green eggs in the nest box! I am confident that we only have one green layer out there.
