Ain't Nobody Here But Us Chickens

How do you know how much fermented feed to make? Do they eat all of it every day, or do you leave it for them a second day if they don't? I'd like to try that, but have 4 hens and a rooster all one year old, and wouldn't know how much they should get. Right now they just have feed available to them all the time during the day. Your little chicks taking their dust bath look quite happy and cute.
I would start with about a cup and see if they eat all of it...I have six and that is what they are getting right now as chicks...ty about dustbath, it was so funny to watch!!

I think it's usually like a cup of feed and 2 cups water i think. Maybe be 1:1. But you can always add more keeping the ratio. Most I've seen also add apple cider vinegar to it. Had big benefits. I may try it

That sounds about right, 1 cup feed to two cups water, or make sure there is at least two inches of liquid above feed, stir a couple times a day and when it smells like bread/beer, it is ready to use...

That is good to know, thanks! Will get it going tomorrow and after 2 days, give them some and see how they like it. Is the apple cider vinegar added when you start it, so it ferments for 2 days also? Sorry for all the questions.

For a cup of feed I would add about a teaspoon...And I would think it would last about two days or so then I would toss what they don't eat...if you have too much in your jar and don't want to use it you can stop fermenting process by putting it in fridge, btw...

Yes I do it "on the side" so they don't starve due to my laziness!

Thanks for all the info and that sounds easy enough, i may try it. And LOL yup, that's what im scared of, starving them

Whitewash inside of your coop! Old-fashioned, cheap and easy. Repeat once a year. Reduces mites and those tiny ick bugs chickens get...

7 cups HYDRATED lime (garden or feed store)
2 cups salt
1 gallon water
Mix well
Slop it on, Get in all cracks and crevices
Do once yearly when cleaning coop.
Goes on "clear", dries white...

Cool thread Mobius!!! Definitely passing this on to Cheryl so she can be working on some of your goodies. They are her chickens after all. lol...
