OK, I just woke up and haven't yet checked on them. I iwll stop the yogurt until the crop empties more. One is really much better than the other and I have high hopes for her. I recieved these birds only a few days ago and am not sure how long they have been in bad health. Here are all of their symptoms and such:
-swollen crops, one really worse than the other.
-a med air bubble behind the crop on one and a small air bubble on the other. It is sort of on their shoulders since that's where their crops are right now due to being swollen.
-mites
-scaly leg mites on one (treated all birds)
-terribly underweight, necks sink in like an underfed horses flanks.
-one has ridiculously long toe nails, this is the one that I discovered is banded???? How could someone go to the trouble of banding a bird and than let it get so sick?
-The one that is better, is pert and willing to eat yogurt. She's kind of looking at me like "what's going on?"
-The one that's worse off just sits there and doesn't eat yogurt. She has eaten many other things before I realized her crop condition though. I think she just hates yogurt.
-poos are surprisingly normal. The worse one went at least three times since I brought her in and messaged her crop. It did look like it was going down last night.
-no smelly breath
Ok, sorry so long but it is just really wierd to me? Do y'all think that their crops are what caused them to be so underweight or do you think their *lovely* previous owner just didn't feed them? After they get better (I am determined) I ma going to treat them for worms though i don't know how, I've never done it before?????
I realize that I should take them to a vet. I wish that I could. My husband loves our chickens but he will not let me spend that kind of $$ of these birds that my friend bought us. He is already mad at the whole situation. Also, we just don't really have any $$ right now:-(
