I'm not going to say "normal" but not uncommon. My first hatcher had the "cord" still attached to the egg goo. The cord itself pulled off the rest of the membrane and I just let it dry and then I cut it closer to the belly. In your case though you have other chicks that may very well peck at it. It is probably safe to clip it closer to the body if it hasn't dislodged itself and if you have bacitracin or an anti bacterial cream with OUT pain relief you can put a dab on the "belly button". If you put him in with the others keep an eye so they don't peck at the "belly button" spot. If they do you may need to seperate him out until it closes up better.

Yay for 7 out!!!

I did end up taking the first 6 out (to the brooder.) The youngest of those was a good 8 hours older than this one, and they were getting a little wild in my little brinsea! I did nothing so far with the cord, I think it will be fine.

I only slept about 2 hours today after my night shift. I was just too excited to sleep! The white egg with the small air cell still has not pipped externally. I have only one more pipped that's not out yet. I'ts interesting, all of the brown eggs went one right after the other. Then 8 hours, then green eggs all this afternoon- one at a time. White is last- hopefully he makes it! I'm heading to bed soon, and we have #8 out now. Not bad for 10 eggs going into lockdown.

Thanks so much for all of your insight, Amy. You have been a tremendous help in soothing my nerves!
