iajewel ,, yes i kept them in the fridge a few days till i had enough to fill a rack,,, and after the fridge i took them out and waited8 hours till they got room temp before i put them in the bator.

In the third pic, the thing on the left is the clear part in the bottom of the egg. The air sac is on the right in the third pic. You can see a line between the air sac and the rest of the egg. The clear part of the egg just kind of blends in.

I usually candle mine on their sides, till the little booger gets to big in there! After that I candle from top down, to see the veins coming off the air sac.

But there is a definite line between the air sac and the rest of the egg. Also, when you shine the light into the air sac it will light up the egg pretty well.

Compare pics 3&5, pic 3 air sac on right, pic 5 air sac on left. Notice the line.

yups,,,, thats what im seeing,,,&#$^*# "hippie genes" are leaking outta me,,, is different when someone actually TELLS you what your looking at, then trying to just figure it out from a pic that says,,,"this is a good egg" and dont explain WHAT your looking at. i saw all that "space" in the small end, and automatically thought THAT was the air sac ,, didnt look hard enough to see the REAL sac. i looked again this morning,, and they look JUST like yours,, all 30 of em,, and can see all the veins and looked a little harder at the BIG end, and ignored the small end,,, and now can see the difference.
Thankies alot shelley ,, and ALL othas ,, man i was worried i did something major wrong.
so now i guess i owe all of ya some mutt eggs,,, hehe,, can almost guarantee their all fertile lol

I wish I had as much luck as you! I have 14 eggs in there, and those two in the pics and one other are the only ones developing. One of my dad's stupid hens had her nest hidden. I didn't find it until there were at least 12 eggs in it, and it had been getting into the 40's at night...guess that was a bit cold for them.

Hey Hippie, mine all have it too. I think it's just because the chick's body hasn't filled out the whole egg yet. I would not worry about it.

I'm glad to hear things are looking up for your hatch Jim.

Shelley - great idea to share personal pics to help him understand what he's seeing. That was very helpful.

It was day 7 on my incubator eggs today, and I candled. I'm having the same problem, but mine were gathered all in one day, candled before putting in the incubator, and put in an egg turner. I decided to switch the eggs with the ones my three broody silkies are sitting on (they are on day 19). My humidity is right, my temp is right, but I really don't like that egg turner. I'm probably going to hand turn every batch from here on out.

Back when I was a kid and was hatching out eggs, we hand turned the eggs, and got great hatch rates (bantam game birds). I have seven chicks right now out of 10 eggs, but they were hatched by the broodies. The hens will not leave the nest, even when there are no eggs and have chicks. I gave them 3 days and they wouldn't move, so I put more eggs under them and brought the chicks in. I've been hand feeding them every day and making them get off of the nest at least once per day, but it's difficult to keep three hens from tackling you and hopping back into their nest!

Good luck with your hatch!
