ALABAMA!!

Thanks to Tmoore8595 my sweet Ezri has some eggs to call her own.

She wasn't happy when I picked her up to move her off her 'children' (a quartz egg, a plastic ball and a rock), but once I laid 6 gorgeous blue eggs in her nest, she gingerly fanned her wings over her new kids and began rearranging them. She's one happy chicken now. Fingers crossed she manages to hatch some!

In other news.. my chickens are getting a little TOO friendly. This morning one of my RIR wandered into the kitchen, squawking at me. When I show her out, and closed the door, she started flapping at the window. Now she'll sit in front of the door, squawking angrily...

Oh chickens... it's like living with a dozen teenagers

they all want something, but you have no clue what and they make a mess... wheew.

Okay everyone!! I broke down and getting some A&M Quails. I know it's not chickens. The English Orpingtons I want are way too expensive!!! I can get eggs slightly cheaper but as you guys know my incubators were murdered.

I'm getting more than I'm expected. 14 adults quails!!!

Now that I'm getting them I remember why I hated owning quails. I had a button that use to crow at 4am in the morning. The day he died was the happiest day of my life.
Been told I can cull the males and my problem would be solved. In theory I'm all for it but deep down inside I'm a coward( I would never survive in nature!!)

Going to pick them up tomorrow.
It's great that your getting some birds again! If you have some males just sale them or give them away! I sale my extra's!

Now I have gone from 9 roos to 3... But all the crowing in the morning starting at 1 am is still hard to sleep thru some nights! Take pics and post so we can see your new birds!

Any of you have baby chickens for sale? I need a companion for my 1 day old baby! None of his brothers or sisters hatched!!
Thanks,
Glenda
Glenda, I am sorry! I don't have any but you might check some of the FB poultry pages to see if someone near you has some.

Welcome to the group and I hope you find someone who has some babies!

Does anyone know any thing about feeding chickens store bought bird seed. Just trying to figure out things for the winter. Thought about making thos obird seed things with the grease. Of course they would still get plenty of chicken feed. Was looking at it as a way to keep them busy and as a treat. Bugs are a bit scarce in the winter and I thought the grease would put a little extra fat on them to keep warm. I'm new at the chicken raising thing so can someone let me know what they think please.

Mine have had birdseed as well as the tallow/grease block things. As with anything, moderation is key. Warm oatmeal is nice in the winter, as well as things like grits or cream of wheat. Mealworms are fairly easy to raise, there are several threads about it on the forums. You can also buy dried mealworms, if you don't like the idea of squigglies!
