Hi, Deanna! I live near Tuscaloosa, there is not a vet in the county (that I know of, and I know most of them) that will treat chickens, HOWEVER, there are some who will help if you go about it just the right way. What problem are you having?

Does anyone know of a poultry vet near tuscaloosa?
I'm so excited!(cue the Pointer Sisters)![]()
I got another 10 hens over this past weekend. 8 RIR/BR mix and 2 Black Giants. They are all past POL and are so big! They are still getting acclimated to their new surroundings - a new coop, new fenced run (they free-ranged at their previous locations), and new roommates. Only the two BG hens have been used to having a rooster around so that is a BIG adjustment for the other eight. They run from him like he's the boogey man. Poor Rocky. All his other ladies are pretty willing so this is a new situation for him. The demand for my eggs was getting so great that I couldn't possibly keep up with just the 15 hens I had so these additional girls should help that - plus they are just so darn pretty. I didn't have any black birds (except for one little bantam hen) until now.
We got lucky and a small, locally owned equipment rental place here in our area will rent you a piece of equipment on a Saturday morning (they close at Noon on Saturday and are closed on Sunday) and let you keep it until 9am on Monday morning and you still only pay the one day rental fee. We had over 35 holes to dig for our run, garden, and compost areas so there was no question about digging them with a post hole digger. Have you checked for a place like that in your area? I try to never rent anything from HD or Lowe's if I can help it. They are usually the most expensive option.Yay! Congrats!![]()
Crazy question. Anyone in my area have a power auger we can borrow? I can rent one at Home Depot for $87, but dang, that's quite a bit of money for a couple of holes for a run![]()
I'm about to start water the soil every few hours to loosen it up, because it's been so dry lately that soil is like concrete.
