ALABAMA!!

They are closing all of our county schools at 12:30 and the two private schools are closing at 11:00. I have family in Memphis and they have had a lot of damage. It seems to be a lot worse to the north of us.

I'm not even bringing mine to school. It's still pouring, the baby has a fever.. I'm not taking him in the rain TWICE, for his brother to attend 2 1/2 hours of pre-school

Sorry Head Start. That's one unexcused absence for us. That'll make up for that time he was in school after they open 2 hours late due to snow and there were only 4-5 other kids.

HI to all! We are new to this. We are about to purchase our first chickens. Are there any that are no-nos to the Alabama area. Our primary purchase is for laying eggs and family enjoyment/pets. We are thinking of purchasing 3 chickens and would like to get the best for our needs.

Thanks!!
Its fun to try for egg color variety: an EE or Ameraucana for the green/blue egg, a Leghorn for white (Mediterranean breed, bred for heat, supposed to be flighty but don't tell my girl who eats from my hand and sits on my lap), Marans or Welsummer for dark brown, Sussex of any type for light brown - - - the more they are handled as babies, the more 'pet-like' they grow up to be.

(Although as someone's personal quote reads, if you fall down in your yard and knock yourself unconscious, they WILL eat you . . . :)

I didn't send my dd either just not worth it

In good news, this weather (and not having to go get the kid) made me stay inside and tackle mt.Laundry. I have made it to the summit. Next up, mt.Sinkfullofdishes. That one is a doozy. It's a treacherous one.. everytime you -think- you made it to the summit, it's dinnertime, and you have to start at the bottom again.

Didn't even have to get out my jammies today.

I was happy to see the backyard semi-flood.. the area I staked off yesterday was safe from flooding.. Yay, no muddy chickens!

I was drooling at Ebay last night.. folks selling off batches of colored eggs. Just don't think I want to get into hatching just yet though... I really would love a Welsummer, some Wyandotes.. few Dutch banties.. few EE's... Math always was my strongest subject in high school..
