They are probably going to peck her wound when you put her back in. They will peck at anything, even freckles. Chickens can appear to be the dumbest animal on earth. I went a few days ago and opened the gate to the runand all but one rushed out as they usually do. One pullet was a little slow and instead of going to the gate she began running back and forth on one side of the run trying to get out. I had to go in and run her to the gate. When she finally saw the gate that she had gone out many times before she took off like a shot

Oh my God, mine do that ALL THE TIME. They forget where the darn door is and just run back and forth and into the wire endlessly.

She picked at the wound herself at first, leaving me to tape it up to keep her out of it. It'll be a while before I put her back. Probably weeks. But she's still laying, so she has to have her little trips to the coop or she'll have a fit

Although she has come to a point that she hesitates to go out the door and just kind of wanders around the kitchen instead.

My chickens aren't very big groomers, which surprises me. One of my birds walked around with a feather sticking straight out of her wing for a month, before I clipped it off. I figured they would have pulled it out, but they just didn't care. This morning one of my chickens was walking around with poop on her head.. Now ducttape... that one MUST be taken care off immediately apparently. Silly birds.

I am selling one of my Narragansett tom's he is 6 months old. All my turkey have been hand fed and are very sweet and good natured. 50.00.
It's just that I wound up with 5 tom's and only one hen. Please pm me if you are interested. My turkey have always been with chickens and do not hurt them! Might consider a trade?

Tomtom, sorry about the difficulty with the tape! Opps! I have used it several times and it came off by itself after a while. Mine never picked at it too much, but then again, mine were not white! The one time I had to remove the duct tape I just snipped the feathers it was attached to. I had a chick once that was getting pecked bloody on top of her head. I made her a little duct tape helment and she wore it til the fuzz on her head that it was attached to fell off and was replaced with feathers. It worked like a charm!

Ha. No problem. We did the same, just snipped her feathers some. I would have left it on longer, but I was terrified of infection. She's got some new tape on after we cleaned it.

Ofcourse, dear fiance only buys industrial strength tape... that *may* have been part of the issue

Silly bird laid an egg in the dog crate today. I thought she had gone in the nestbox.. guess that wasn't her egg.
