ALABAMA!!

We're at two chicks now. I removed the one that died in it's shell. I'm really sad about that one, because the first day I heard a bunch of peeping and I just hope it wasn't that one peeping in distress because it hatched upside down

It's fully formed, only a little bit of yolk sac remaining... but there's no movement at all, I had so hoped to find it was breathing and just needed time. I'm afraid it suffocated, because I didn't realize it was upside down >_<

The other two are healthy as can be. Nicely closed belly buttons. One had a slightly crooked middle toe, so I made a little scuba fin for it. They're cuddling up now, which is great, as the first one was kind of lonely.

The other eggs are no longer peeping, the last peep I heard was yesterday morning. I hope noone died in the shell and they're just quiet.. or I confused eggs and the ones that I heard already hatched.

Tomtom, your chickie's a cutie!

Where exactly are you from? I'm in the grand bay area... He looks like a black australorp ... I have two Australorp hens and I'm looking for someone who can 'get his business done' if you know what I mean ;)

I'm off exit 299 off I-65 north of Birmingham. If you want him I would be happy to meet you.

Hatching has come to an end. All the other eggs are dead. I opened the eggs to make sure

I got two sweet fuzzies and I am very happy with them, but I am sad about the ones I lost... they were SO close to hatching.

This is the egg I had been hearing.. the air pocket was WAY too small for the little one (small egg). It had an internal pip and died. No way for the little one to get out of that egg. I wish I had been able to help, but it was only day 20 yesterday, I didn't expect them to need help so soon.. and you can't see what's going on inside. Peeping means live chick and you leave live chicks be.

This is the egg that pipped upside down. It died before the other egg, the membranes were much darker.

This one died probably some days ago. When candled it had clear specks all over the egg. Membranes were dark and the chick looks like it's not all the way developed.

The last egg wasn't developed at all, and may have caused the above egg to get contaminated. I don't know. Mom chicken wasn't very clean about things either (she put poopy feet on her eggs).

So 5 out of 6 developed, 2 hatched (I think 1 boy, 1 girl). 2 would have hatched if I were in the right place at the right time.. but, they say don't mess with them. Can't help but feeling upset about losing those two though..

Thank you to T.Moore for the eggs and helpful advice.

I hope to hatch some more some day.

Anyone know what this is??? I noticed it on a few of my chickens combs and I don't know what it is or if I should be worried, if anyone does know what it is, pleas PM me, as I'm not on much and font really go down the thread much either

My guess would be damage from wire on the cage/pen. If it were mine, though, I would put some betadine on it once a day or two and then follow up with some vaseline for a week or so. The betadine will stain it, but will grow off eventually and it kills bacteria. The vaseline will just keep it soft and protect it as it heals.
