Anyone want a silkie rooster? Im in the Tuscaloosa area.

Hi All! I'm a newbie, and recently started a petition to have backyard chickens allowed in Helena. Looking for other locals who would be interested in signing. Nice to meet everyone, we have four chicks that we adore hidden and safe in our coop that our neighbors adore. That wasn't enough, because everyone isn't as lucky to have cool neighbors like we do. So the good fight has officially begun! Wish us luck

Hello and welcome to BYC! I am thrilled to hear that you are taking on city hall and wish (there I go again) you all the luck in the world. I really think that denying people the pleasure of a few hens in their backyard as pets with benefits is ridiculous. I'm not from Helena, but I'm behind you 100%!!

One of our city council members has offered to help me draft the proposal to change the law and sponsor it so it gets put on the agenda! I'll update y'all on how everything goes! Thanks for the support :)

well, i finally got my new coop finished and wanted to get rid of the old 4x4 PURPLE coop. i doubt i had $5 in the whole thing since i made it out of scrap wood from work. i threw it on craigslist for $40 HOPING i could get rid of it in a week or two. well, 30 minutes after i posted it i had FOUR people emailing me saying they'd pick it up that day. on guy was at my house within an hour of me posting it. he told my wife i listed it WAY too cheap. and here i was thinking it was a piece of crap! maybe i should get into the chicken coop business

look at that ugly thing!

...One man's trash.......

Congrats! You got what you wanted for it and he got what he considered a bargain! Both are happy, that's a good deal!

I took my son's on a covert mission after dark last night. We went dumpster diving. That is not something I would do, normally, but I was at the hardware store yesterday and noticed that they had thrown away several partial rolls of hardware cloth and rabbit wire.

Score!!!!

you're right on the one man's trash thing. i guess i underestimated the value. funny side note: the guy asked my wife if she was "getting out of the chicken business" and she pointed to my new coop about 4ft away and told him "no, we're just getting started!" the guy said "WOW, i looked right at that and had no idea it was a chicken coop". maybe i should list that coop for $800-900. (hahahah, i only have about $30 in the new one)

We are working on our first coop and it is out of scrap wood from my husbands workplace and my grandfathers workplace and half of my old porch! I think once I paint it that it will look good! That is if me and my husband can build it without killing eachother we don't make a good coop building team lol!

My very first chicken coop was made from an old outhouse! It held 4hens. I nailed wood over the holes, and that's where the nest boxes went. Put a screen door on the front for ventilation. At night the wooden door was closed. I let them free range during the day. They seemed to like their little coop potty. At least they never complained! And it didn't stink either!
