ALABAMA!!

Dumor makes them stink

I usually go with Layena. I do get the Dumor crumble for chicks (ofcourse the adults end up eating it and stinking up a storm). They honestly lack no protein... they get BOSS often, and scraps and there's bugs a plenty.

Will get Justin to buy it there next time. We just got another bag yesterday. I currently use 2-3 bags a month

Man! Your number is growing. #50lbs last my guys about 3 months+. But they are happy under my persimmon tree eating bugs and fruits through out the day.

I get a 22% layer for about $12.50 for 50 lbs. The same store also carries a 16% layer for $10.50 for 50 lbs, if I recall correctly. But that is in the Birmingham area. Layer feed at my local TSC starts around $17. Not sure how far you are willing to travel for your feed, but G&D Farms in Wilmer cold be an option for cheaper feed.

Where is the place in Bham?

It's actually in Bessemer - Thrasher Feed And Grain.

Thank you for all these post. I will contact all of them. Robertsdale is doable via my car(42mpg vw diesel) ;), but wilmer sounds a lot closer. I'm in the Semmes/Eightmile area.

I wish I could free range mine. However, flying above our families properties is quite a few big birds of prey. As well as everyone has a hoard of dogs let loose.

I have 34 hungry birds in three different pens. I wish I could let them free range, but they get ample protected area to move.

For one of the pens I welded a 10'x20' run for the hens to protect them. 1/2"-3/4" emt conduit, cattle panels, and hardware cloth covering every square inch. I put hardware cloth the entire perimeter of floor outside. It holds two people standing on it with zero sway. :) I have a eletric fence surrounding the area. I don't think anything has a chance at my chickens now.

Whoo Hooo,
I got my 1st & 2nd Quail egg Today. I just got them 12 days ago, so I guess they were a week or two older than I thought.
I saw some plans to make my own incubator on another thread here so I think I am going to have to start collecting the items needed to make it. I have never had any luck with the store bought Styrofoam incubator i have so I will try my luck at a homemade one.

The feed store in Citronelle has some but can't match the price that tractor supply has. I mix game bird feed with Layer crumbles and calf manna to give them some extra protein.
