My sweet friend Tim....

I know a place right in the heart of the heart of Dixie.

The grass is always greener.

The peaches are always sweeter, but never as sweet as our tea.

The people who live here always sit on their porches at night and listen to the sounds of whipper-wills. We know our neighbors.

We love to teach Northerners how to catch crappie. And always, always grow our own tomatoes.

You come on down, watch the grandchildren play, raise a flock of Delaware and feel at home.

See you soon....

(and we will ride around and look at real estate)

Junior , you can say that again. I always tell my kids when they buy a home to get as much land and be as far away from the city as they can afford. We have nearly 3 acres here.

ekemliy- I don't know about a craft fair. our last visit DW went to a smocking shop and I went to the garden shop in Homewood and between us dropped a bundle.

Claudia - it's hard to find a sweet peach up here and tea sounds great. Porch sitting is becoming a lost art. Haven't done that since I was kid. A porch is the one thing Betsy misses on our current house. She won't be coming this time. She's saving her vacation time for Texas when DD has her first baby in June.

Take care everyone

Hey claudia! I took a look around your website. It's beautiful!! I've been thinking about getting started with some silkies. I eventually want to have a nice, separate coop from our big one in the barn. I wanna put a few specialty chickens in it. I eventually would like to have a couple of silkie chickens to raise for therapy purposes. Are your silkies sweet and do you think they would be suitable for therapy life... like visiting the elderly? Thanks. I live in Fairhope, not too terribly far from you guys.

Are they SWEET!!!! I hand raise each one so they think I'm Momma Hen. They look like little puppies, following me all around the yard. They even run to me for their treats.

Yes, they would make great Chickie-therapist...well, only one would be better and that's 'Ol Edner....

about three weeks ago I had an older gentleman from Huntsville come down in a wheel chair. Long ago he raised chickens, and couldn't wait for his son to push him down to the pens. No sooner than he got situated here comes 'OL Edner, a big old buff orpington hen that ran right up to him and dang if she didn't jump right on his lap!! Downright stunned the man! I just looked at him and never missing a beat I introduced her as head of Chapel Farms meet and greet committee. I wouldn't take nothing for that! (She was looking for her treat)

Any of the smaller calmer breeds would be excellent for this type work....the secret is how you raise them from chicks. Examples other than the Silkies that you could look into would be the Old English, Seramas or Polish.
