LOL I feel stupid. For several days before I found the first egg I would go into the coop at nite and one hen was "down". I thought she had hurt herself and I kept trying to stand her up and she'd flop right down. After filling her feeder she'd be up and walking. Thought she was sick or hurt. I didn't even give it a thought lol. Chickens get right up and shake it off. Looking at the size of that Narragansett Tom now I totally understand

Of all my turkey hens it seems the ones that are most tame do the most squatting and egg laying, thank my wife she makes any animal a pet sometimes to her demise, they become a meal for the family sometimes.

MY TOM BRED ONE OF HIS HENS THIS MORNING!!!!!

I guess it's time to pen the turkeys!

Our two hens will squat for my husband and for me, but not so much for our tom turkey. He has made a couple surprise "attacks" on one girl or the other, but pretty much they just look like they're sitting there thinking of England... I just don't think their juices are flowing yet. And we've been having gorgeous spring weather for over a month now!

This past year my Merriams layed year round. I am in south GA - so maybe that makes a difference. In addition I have brooder lights that stay on over my roosts for warmth and I have lights on during the night in my pens. My pens are completely covered....I will be posting pictures of the Turkey Taj Mahal in the coming days. Thanks!

It seems as if temperature as a lot to do with hens and eggs.

Here in CR hens lay the year round, I know of one hen that is on her second nesting for the year.

one hen hatched 17 eggs, there were eggs from at least one another hen.

I'm guessing turkeys do whatever they do and don't really follow a set of rules, sort of like guineas.

I sure can't explain what goes on other than what I see with the birds I have, boy do I have a lot to learn. . . . .

Well I need to get back at learning, ya'll have a good nite!
