you only need 10% of the fishmeal to get the ratio BF is making.
We will add BOSS as well.
So, for 2,000 lbs of barley ( which by the way costs only $240) you need 200 pounds of fishmeal. 4 bags worth.
You can spread that cost out, getting one bag at a time.
4 gallons of barley needs 1.6 cups of fishmeal added to it.

I hope I figured all that correctly

Ok so I can't store that much... if I were to buy 500lbs of barley I'd only need 50lbs of fishmeal (is that right?) and then how much BOSS or other things like field peas or oats with that?

500 pounds is only going to be 5 large sacks

Grains, just need to add up to 4 gallons for this small recipe. So any blend is fine.
As far as BOSS, I was thinking of adding 2 quarts to the 4 gallons, and seeing how everyone does.

I remember hearing about a animal feed calculator somewhere. I have no clue where to find it though.

Meant ot add, that we are going to get a sack of rolled feed oats at 3 Bears, and add some of that to add textural variety for the hens.

500lbs will be 10 sacks as neither Sam nor I will carry over 50lbs...lol Me: bad back, him: bad knees... so we go smaller...lol When I go to get it I'll bring dog food bags. I may have to do smaller quantities and just pay a little more.

Just musing over what we can do right now moneywise too.

Bonnie, you, I and Julie should just split a ton. A third is going to be 667 lbs and be $80. You could probably stretch one bag of fishmeal to cover that, maybe 1.5 bags.

Roughly, without any other amendments, we're at about $200 for 700 lbs of feed, so about $.29 per lb. I think I figured up the Budget Stuff at about $.38 per lb, and that's for 16% protein.

It will probably be getting close to the Budget Feed's price after adding in Oyster Shell and BOSS, but with higher protein and fat, since the Budget stuff doesn't have BOSS.

Someone check my math, LOL!

Maybe Donna too? I don't know if I have that much money right now tho... $80 for the barley, $75 for the fishmeal, $20 for BOSS (unless someone knows a cheaper place)... and whatever else I want to put in is close to $200-250 ... maybe I can swing it. Let me talk to Sam. I am trying to see how long the 80lb bag of feed I just got will last me... I opened it on the 15th.

11 cents per pound is what its saving
In the long run, its worth it.
Maybe it would better next year?
I am contemplating setting up a proper storage system, so I can buy what I need for a full year in the fall.
We buy bulk for ourselves, and have seen the savings there thankfully.
Just expanding it to our chickens
