Alaska Chicken Lover's Soup for the Cold!!

So, it is time to divest myself of a bunch of roosters. They are about 2.5 months old and are looking for a new home or a freezer camp when they are big enough. Any takers? I have Black Australorp, Black Jersey Giant, Buff Chantecler, Buff Wyandotte, Cuckoo Dorking, and maybe a Rosecomb RIR. They are free to any of you BYCer's. Otherwise I guess I will put them on Craigslist.

The Chantecler and the Dorking are intriguing. I certainly do have enough Delaware roosters at the moment, but either would go well with the Buff Brahmas and the Orloffs....How soon do you need to get rid of them? Any pictures?

Rachel, they could go any time. The Cucko dorking is a curious, pecky sort of rascal. Has been handled quite a bit and I like him. We have a pullet with a slipped tendon that has become quite a favorite with my daughter. One day she saw Dork peck Spradle and said he had to go. That she wouldn't have any rooster that was mean to her baby. He is a handsome guy but I guess to keep peace he needs a new home or a freezer camp. I don't have any pictures right now but could get some if you are interested. I am having a hard time telling the buff Wyandottes from the buff Chantelers. I could take pictures there and let you decide who is who.... But I thought you just got in trouble for some chicks you accidentally ordered. How will this fit into the picture?

Oh, yeah, I forgot to add that these chicks are from Sandhill Preservation. They hatched on June 1

Well we ended up losing one little red cornish. It just kinda faded away and was dead this morning.

On the other hand, only losing one out of the whole batch is not bad odds on shipped babies!

Well, I'm not entirely convinced you don't have an extra one here! The questionable is feathering out much slower than the rest, really doesn't seem to have puffy cheeks at all compared to the others, is generally smaller and stockier, and looks to be coming in much darker. You have any that just don't seem to "match"?

It's amazing how much of a difference a couple of days can make!

Sorry you lost one of your little guys.

These are feisty! Last night they caught their first bug, a moth that wandered in and was attracted to the light!

Well, the thing is that the BF isn't working right now, spends a lot of time playing video games and generally being kind of depressed because he can't find a good job. So he grumbles a bit but he knows better than to protest too loudly!

However, this also means that until after the fair gets rolling, I won't have much expendable income to divide my pen and generally make improvements for the winter. Can they wait just a couple of more weeks? My Del roo is not very assertive and hasn't shown any interest in the girls yet (young,) but I am more worried about the Delaware girls ganging up on an outsider.

Hmm, where are you located?

I'm in anchorage. I get feed at Budget in Palmer. Maybe we can meet there. I'll try to get pictures. If you want to wait a few weeks that is fine. Just let me know what you are interested in as I would like to move some of them out to other homes.
